Saclor Family

Structure

The Lord of The Darkwood Forest (who is normally also head of the Saclor Family) rules over the holdings, and is advised by a small council made up of the leaders of the individual settlements under their rule and the other members of the Saclor family.

History

  • 56 BYD: Alerig, a powerful grain merchant and one of Jegor's illegitimate human children, laid claim to the Darkwood Forest. This brought him into conflict with Jegoria's self appointed king, Jegor II, also known as Jegor Peacebringer. Alerig's men knew the forest better than Peacebringer's. Alerig and Jegor II eventually met in battle, and Alerig defeated the new King. Outnumbered and knowing that he did not have the forces to take all of Jegoria from Jegor II, they negotiated terms where Alerig would bend the knee to Jegor II in exchange for his family being made the permanent lords of the Darkwood Forest, and being allowed full reign and control over the mercantile interests there. Both men were given copies of this agreement, but the original was given to The Order of the Learned Fist, to be hidden away in their archives for safekeeping. Alerig was given the surname Saclor (Jegor II had meant to give the name Sacklord, but during the proclamation, his voice betrayed him, and he dropped the D).
  • 200 AYD: Alerig III is born.
  • 500 AYD: Alerig IV is born.
  • 600 AYD: Alerig V is born
  • 700 AYD: Jorey and Rolane Saclor are born minutes apart.
  • 729 AYD: The Saclor lands are split into two following the death of the lord and disagreements between the two sons. The Northern Saclors, to be ruled by the younger twin, Rolane, are given dominion over the Darkwood Forest and their lands north of The Frothy River. The Southern Saclors would be ruled by the older twin, Jorey, who was given control over the fertile farmlands between the Frothy River and the Slack River, extending west.
  • 1200 AYD: Rolane II is born.
  • 1223 AYD: Rolane III is born.
  • 1243 AYD: Rolane IV is born.
  • 1246 AYD: Rolane III's daughter, Santolia Saclor is born.
  • 1248 AYD: Carmen Saclor is born.
  • 1260 AYD: The Southern Saclors are brutally killed during the peasant uprising after Altaiesha declared independence from Jegoria. Carmen's father (Rolane III) and his oldest brother (Rolane IV) ride south and negotiate terms with the Altaieshias, giving up their lands west of the Stoneforge Mountains, but keeping their lands to the east. Rolane III very briefly ruled a united Saclor family until he and his son were both died in their sleep on the return journey. Carmen Saclor mysteriously disappears from his studies in the capital, Norford. Marcivina and her daughter Santolia take over the lands, insisting that Carmen is not dead and that he will return one day to rule.
  • 1276 AYD: Carmen Saclor returns with a wife, Rosaline, and takes over from his sister, who was being pressured to marry into the royal family.
  • 1278 AYD: Carmen II is born.
  • 1284 AYD: Rosaline dies.

Territories

The family controls the lands north and east of the Foam River, south of The Stoneforge Mountains, and west of the Slack River.  They control the following settlements within those borders:
  • The town of Eagle's Landing
  • The Darkwood Forest
  • The kobold village of Fire's Rest
  • Stoutforge Hall
They also control the village of Eagle's Perch in Jegoria.

Military

The Saclor family has it's own military, mostly footmen and cavalry.  This is bolstered by dwarven warriors from Stoutforge Hall, Kobolds from Fire's Rest, and the military of Altaiesha.

Foreign Relations

  • Kingdom of Jegoria:  The Saclor family and The Kingdom of Jegoria are enemies.  Carmen Saclor's assassination of King Gavin Reynold the IV and his subsequent defeat of his son, Gavin Reynold the Vth, in a trial by combat, threw The Kingdom of Jegoria into chaos, and put an infant on the throne.
  • Republic of Altaiesha:  The Saclor family has good relations with The Republic of Altaiesha.  During the rise of the Republic, the two sides negotiated a treaty and avoided any bloodshed, with The Saclor family giving up their lands south of the Foam River in exchanging for keeping control of the lands north and east of it.  The two organizations see much trade, and after The Saclor Family declared independence from the Kingdom of Jegoria, they signed a new treaty, agreeing to come to each other's defense if needed.
  • The Dwarven Clans of the Stoneforge Mountains:  The Saclor Family and the Dwarven Clans have good relations.  Many of the dwarven exports are sent downriver, and so they travel through Eagle's Landing.  Most imports that go into the mountain also travel through Eagle's Landing.  Relations improved dramatically with the founding of Stoutforge Hall and The Saclor Family's independence from Jegoria, as they did not replace the King's taxes with anything.  They in turn signed a treaty, pledging to aid each other in defense.
  • The Confederacy of Avalza:  Though The Saclor Family controls no ports, and their land holdings are far from the sea, they enjoy good relations with the islands in the Confederacy, and Carmen Saclor and The Pirate King William Dazeel are known to be good friends.

Agriculture & Industry

The Saclor family is primarily concerned with agricultural pursuits and logging.  The Darkwood Forest provides valuable materials for export, and Eagle's Landing has many fine carpenters for the export of finished wooden goods.  Between the rivers and the forest, the land is fertile and these farms provide much of the food consumed within their holdings.  They also serve as the main export point for goods from The Stoneforge Mountains.

Trade & Transport

Trade flows down from the Foam River and the Slack River, which both orginate in the Stoneforge Mountains.  Trade also travels down the "Traitor's Way" a road leading from Eagle's Landing into Altaiesha.  Trade also moves from Eagle's Landing down the "Noble's Road", a road in Jegoria which mostly follows the Slack River south.  The family puts little restrictions on trade, as long as they get their tax, but refuses to engage in slavery or other forms of indentured servitude.  They do however, require those selling weapons (or the raw materials of such) to sign an oath promising, to the best of their ability, to not sell to the Jegorians, so that these exports are not used against them in the future.

The Saclor family and their holdings have begun to mint their own coinage, known as "Sacs", in Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.  Altaieshian "Steins" and Jegorian "Crowns" are also accepted across the land.  These are normally then sent to Stoutforge Hall to be melted down and reminted as "Sacs"
Major Exports
  • Raw Timbers and Wood
  • Darkwood (A special type of high quality wood that grows in abundance in the forest)
  • Finished wood products
  • Ore, stone, valuable metals, and gems (from Stoutforge Hall's mining operations, as well as imported from the dwarves of the Stoneforge Mountains)
  • Mushrooms and other things that grow in the forest
Major Imports
  • Ore, stone, valuable metals, and gems are sold to them from the dwarves of The Stoneforge Mountains, and then often resold to lands beyond in Eagle's Landing.
  • Barley, corn, grain, hops, fruits, potatoes, and wheat crops are imported from Altaiesha, who grows them in abundance.  While some of these crops are also grown locally, most of the territory held by The Saclor Family is forested.
  • Alcohol from Altaiesha (though they do brew their own as well)
  • Meat and other livestock products.  Much like the crops, Altaiesha is able to produce these products in far greater numbers, given their land holdings.
