Dragonlands of Kalorin

Kalorin is the nation of chromatic dragonborn, ruled by Cyurin the White and Turin the Red, and formerly by Lurin the Blue. These three were ancient dragons that created the ring of mountains that make up Kalorin, and created the Dragonborn race on Algaress.

History

Cyurin, Lurin, and Turin, were three dragon brothers in the empire of The Dragon Queen, who betrayed their mother and sided with the humanoid races of Dreonica. After Yohan Harnell defeated The Dragon Queen in 745 BYD, they took off to the east and founded their own nation of Kalorin. Cyurin created a range of cold mountains to his liking in the south, and Turin created a range of warm mountains to the north. Lurin, who preferred the skies to land, created a mighty tower in the middle of their land that reached high into the sky for him to perch and rest. Once they had built their lands, in 730 BYD, they created a race of creatures, the dragonborn. The dragonborn were humanoid creatures, different from the powerful half-dragons that came from direct coupling between dragons and humans, less powerful, but more consistent. They created different dragonborn to represent the five different colors of chromatic dragons: Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White. These dragonborn were heartier than humans, and took on some of the traits of the dragons themselves. The dragonborn proceeded to settle the lands and there was peace.   The arrival of Tavion Dhalmass in the south in 581 BYD complicated matters. He founded the Kingdom of Dhalmass and the humans spread quickly across Eastern Dreonica. The dragons sent envoys to King Dhalmass, but these envoys were refuted and sent home, for the human king would not negotiate with the dragons, he believed the whole world to be rightfully his, and was confident that he could put down a few dragons if needed. The dragons were disheartened by this, but they left the matter alone. Unfortunately, between 581 BYD and 436 BYD, human settlers repeatedly attempted to expand into Kalorin, and most times had to be turned away by force by the dragonborn. Tavion, and later his son, Tavion II were unconcerned with stopping human expansion into the north, Tavion II had other matters (he was at war with the giants of Boskar and the orcs of Orkcrawn until 436 BYD).   The arrival of the God-King Marcanath and his magical city of Teramund changed matters. Marcanath was openly hostile to Dhalmass from the start, and did not respect the holdings of the elves of the Woods of Old Yudath or the dwarves of the Bulrak Mountains, and so he went to war with all three of them, starting The War of the Three Kingdoms. The merfolk of the great lake chose not to take sides in the matters of surface dwellers. Marcanath came to the dragons in peace, promising that he had no interest in their lands, but that if they aligned with him, their lands would be safe forever more, because he would stop human expansion into them. Already on bad terms with the humans of Dhalmass, as well as the elves (because this country of elves is incredibly racist to any non-elves) and the dwarves (because the dwarves were racist against dragons), Kalorin aligned with Marcanath and Teramund in 432 BYD.   The combination of the dragonborn soldiers, three ancient dragons, and Marcanath himself, proved to be powerful, even for the ancient magical sages in the service of Tavion II. Unfortunately for the dragons, their arrival into the war was just what the dwarves and elves needed to put aside their grudges and align with the humans of Dhalmass, and coordinate their war efforts. The dragons made great pushes into the human lands, but at the battle of River's Edge in 431 BYD, Lurin was slain. The death of their brother forced the dragons themselves to retreat back to Kalorin, and their subsequent failure to bring back their brother, caused them to rethink their agreement with Marcanath. The dragons met with the three ancient sages, and agreed to change sides if the humans would respect their borders. The sages agreed, on the condition that they also build a trade route through Kalorin, so that the humans could reach the lands beyond.   With the combine forces of the dragons, the dwarves, the elves, and the humans of Dhalmass, they were able to push Marcanath's forces back into Teramund and blockcade the city, and eventually Marcanath agreed to a peace treaty, ending the war and setting up Teramund as it's own independent city state. This treaty also recognized the borders of Kalorin.
