The Faithless

The prominent force that propelled the Age of Dichotomy into being was the split of the Valar. The rebellious, those who turned against Veritamos and desired "freedom" from his control, called themselves the "Unbound." They are known today in the 4th Age as "The Faithless," or "Demon Lords."

Leadership and Origin

When the Faithless decided to secede from the Valar, they established a very loose ranking of leadership roles. As Devils were not yet established, the Demon Lords had to have a sort of governance at the start.   Lokiandlies, Hardianthor, and Daedalius (The "Big 3") were the three who began the descent into madness. Much speculation is given as to whether these three were doomed to fall from the start. Others fell into their waywardness over time, being drawn into their mad designs and schemes. Yet these three were the seeds of Calamity that wrought madness upon the world for millennia.

Speculation on their descent

The current popular theory as to what ultimately corrupted the Big 3, as they are called, is that they had always yearned for the role of Veritamos since their inception. In secret, they began to create the Abyss - another plane of existance that became chaotic evil incarnate. Over time, the Abyss proved to overwhelm any aspirations they had in and of themselves. They could not help but give their whole beings over to the Abyss, and the Abyss consumed them entirely for its own purposes.   Another theory postulates that the Abyss was already formed at the start of creation, and the "Big 3" merely stumbled upon it in their search for something greater. This theory upholds the Abyss itself as the antethesis of Veritamos, though no further effort is given as to why something would be considered close to equal to the creator.
