Royal House of Tormevi

The Tormevi family may well be the most important family in Iona today. Along with the Atrinya and Ovresti families, they and their various branches have solidly made their mark on the politics (not to mention the genome) of the entire world. The Royal House of Tormevi, one such branch, ruled Milana for over two hundred years. Depending on your definition of Milani borders, Kiernen Tormevi- the arguably current ruling queen- still has control over a large swath of the continent, if not politically than by the loyalty of her subjects.   The Tormevi House was founded in the late sixth century by Terezia Tormevi and her four daughters; the Royal House by her youngest daughter (Onesta) and her successors. Since then, six women and three men have held claim to the matri/patriarch title, and twenty-one people have earned the traditional* rights to claim the title. The youngest of these, Kendra Ovresti, has not claimed them due to her position against her mother Queen Kiernen in the ongoing war.   *Untraditionally, Queen Kiernen has granted the Tormevis of Atriane and the surviving Nazennes of Byfox the rights to the title. The Atriane branch consists of the surviving descendants of her late older brother Baudri IV and Reza Nazenne, and as Callista Nazenne (also known as Seersdaughter) is the only other remaining descendant of Agnes Tormevi and Loldor Chiethelt, she has been granted the title as well. All of these members are marked by an asterisk in the list below.   Recently (starting about 800), the enemies of the Royal House and of Milana in general have carried out a systematic campaign to wipe out the family. The first major event took place in 816, and was afterward named the Cleansing of the House of Tormevi, as a number of their enemies belonged to different, more diluted branches of the family. Casualties of this included the ruling queen, Agnes Tormevi, her consort Loldor, and their daughter Vevra II.   Thirty-one years later, a similar event occurred- this one called the Second Fall of Milana. Directed primarily towards the old families (mostly with strong Tormevi blood), very few old Milani nobles survived. Only those in Lolinglas at the time, along with Callista Nazenne and Aida Ettaria escaped- although Aida was caught and killed a few months later.   Because of the high Tormevi death toll, many sympathetic family members in Lolinglas and otherwise have begun not only naming their children after the dead but also keeping the Tormevi name consistent- instead of alternating with the other parent's family name, as is Ionian tradition.
