    The Appearnce of dwarves
    Life, Birth

In 13200 b. BF, the dwarves enter Alendia. Their origin is controversial. Some argue, that dwarves are a result of the intercourse of giants and elves, some say dwarves were created by giants. The most common interpretation is, that dwarves were awakened from their slumber deep down in the mountains by the war between the dragons and the giants and came to the surface.

    Coordiantion
    Population Migration / Travel

Different dwarves appeared all over the howling mountains in Ephea. Single tribes weren't able to survive assaults from giants in the north or attacks from the armies of the dragons in the south. Many of them gathered in the western part of the mountain range, avoiding combat for the moment and slowly built up a civilization.

Ancient tales and reports from the dwarves tell about the construction of the first city of the dwarves. It happened around 13150 b. Expansion

Staying away from the raging war between dragons and giants, the dwarves spread further, building more similar cities around Vom Faldir, interconnecting them with cave systems and tunnels. History reports tell about the number of dwarves slowly reaching tens of thousands.

    Monsters in the southern mountains
    Discovery, Exploration

Dwarven scouts were sent to explore the southern region of the mountains, discovering new lands for the growing population of dwarves. However, they quickly realized, that the southern mountains were filled with different monsters, leftovers of deserting forces of the dragon's armies. Especially tribes of minotaurs were present in the mountain ranges and their aggressivity didn't allow any negotiations.

    Preparing for war
    Military action

Dwarves discovered iron very early, and due to their nature, they had no problems processing and forging it. At first, the main focus was set on forging tools and weapons for potential defensive purposes. However, as the number of dwarves reached a reasonable size, they started to prepare for war, looking to conquer territory to solve their problem of overpopulating.

    Rebuilding ruins
    Construction beginning/end

The dwarves slowly expanded to the east. The forces of the giants and dragons were still too strong to take on, but due to the nimbleness of the dwarves, they were able to slip by certain borders. Infiltrating hostile territory, the dwarves settle in left cities of giants or dragons and rebuilt and reinforced potential ruins. The size of these ruins was much larger than the size of the usual dwarven cities, which allowed the dwarves to house many people.

    Clans
    Civil action

The government of all dwarves hasn't been well defined due to their very uncomfortable situation. It was very typical, that the tribal eldest made most decisions for the people of the associated tribe. In 12704 b. BF, the first dwarven clans were founded. Tribes with similar interests allied with each other as a clan, which allowed further structuring and protection of the society. In 12704 b. BF, three different clans were founded: The Silverbears, The Mithril-born, and The Ironhelms.

    Skirmishes
    Military action

Around 11900 b. BF, the Ironhelms finally sought to expand. The north was guarded by armies of giants and the southern mountains were filled with monsters. The best alternative was heading towards the east, taking advantage of the war of giants and dragons. One of the most common fighting approaches of dwarves was to scout out enemy forces and wait for them to clash with a hostile force. That way, the dwarves were able to clean up the remaining weakened forces.

    Discovery of Dwarves
    Discovery, Exploration

In 11738 b. BF, the giants realized that the dwarves became a growing threat and that they already joined the battle. The result was the rise of the awareness of giants and eventually an open war declaration. Many towns in the western mountains were destroyed by giants, which almost resulted in the extinction of the Mithril-born. However, at this point, the dwarves already established and reinforced their position in the central mountains and were looking to expand further east- and northwards.

    The disaster in Mon Todur
    Disaster / Destruction

Mon Todur was one of the largest and most important cities of the giants. Due to a strategical brilliant maneuver, the dwarves waited for the giant military to leave the city, marching towards the armies of the dragons. The dwarves conquered Mon Todur with ease, however, they were tricked by the giants, who left their main forces hidden in Mon Todur, resulting in a disastrous defeat of the dwarven military. But instead of annihilating the dwarves, the giants offered an agreement. While they retreated to their home in the north, the dwarves were obliged to defend their borders from the invading forces of dragons.

    Military action

Accepting the offer of the giants, the dwarves were able to survive, yet obliged to defend the mountains from further invasions of the followers of the dragons. The next 300 years were characterized by the war against dragons. Due to the territorial advantage of the dwarves, they managed to not just defend against incoming attacks, but also drive the forces of dragons. The dwarves conquered most of the central mountains and hills, occupying former cities of giants and dragons, and built cities as well. It is said, that they kept the architecture of giants because it turned out as very practical and powerful. The economy and civilization of dwarves was prospering.

    New Clans and policies
    Political event

Fighting the armies of dragons, it became more and more clear, that the dwarven forces need more structure. While the Ironhelms were very energetic and military, the Silverbeards and Mithril-born were rather cautious and defensive. Over time, some dwarves didn't feel belonging to either clan, which eventually led to the founding of new clans, for example, The Grimsleepers, The Alderfists, and The Ashforge Clan. Most of these clans reformed their government. The elders of the clan assigned the role of the clan leader (also called 'Duke') to one dwarf. The elders often kept the role of advisors. Around 11200 b. BF, there have been 8 different dwarven clans, and all of them eventually agreed to unite. This alliance of clans was led by the Silverbears, the oldest dwarven clan.

Those elves were involved in fighting the armies of dragons too and due to this common enemy, negotiations between dwarves and elves started. The dwarves learned, that the elves once were enemies of the giants. Seeing that giants and dragons were common enemies, both races agreed on some kind of a loose alliance and made trade agreements.

    Dwarves versus giants
    Military action

Finally expelling the armies of dragons from the central mountains, the dwarves claimed the whole territory for themself. They quickly realized that it will be much harder to fight these forces in the open fields in the ephean flatlands. However, their obligation to fight the dragons wasn't nullified. The dwarves felt confident enough to defend their southern borders from the dragons and their northern borders from the giants, eventually breaking the contract with giants, which led to war once more. The dwarves once again focussed on defensive warfare. While the southern borders were easy to defend due to territorial advantage, the northern war against giants was characterized by a mixture of victories and defeats, including very high casualties and even the entire annihilation of clans.

    The elves betrayal
    Diplomatic action

Around 10100 b. BF, the elves decide to support the dwarves actively in the war against the giants. Both parties plan a mutual attack on a giant camp on the Bloodshed Shore. The camp was sieged and dwarven pioneers dug tunnels to attack the camp from the mountainside. In 10093 b. BF, the elves retreated their troops from the front, afraid of the casualties, and the siege was overrun, resulting in a massacre of the dwarven army. Clan Willowgart, the leading clan in this siege was nearly annihilated and had to be integrated into the Ironhelms to survive. The elvish retreat was seen as an act of cowardness and hasn't been forgiven by the dwarves. Until today, it is one of the main reasons of the lack of cooperation between elves and dwarves.

The orcs were fighting the monsters in the southern mountain regions and conquered their territory. Not planning to stop there, they looked to advance further, eventually reaching the borders of the dwarven clans, resulting in yet another war.

    Military action

It turned out that the orcs were much easier to fight than the monsters. Their physical strength was equal to or even higher than the dwarf's but once again the dwarves' knowledge about the terrain and territory, gave them the deciding edge over them. Absorbing the orc's initial charges, the dwarves eventually fought them back, claiming the cleared-out southern mountain ranges. In 9766 b. BF., after the humans declared war on the orcs, the orcs retreated from the lost war in the mountains, leaving them for the dwarves. Until 9750 b. BF., the dwarves conquered almost all of the southern mountains with only little to no resistance from the orcs.

However, many more clans existed, but their numbers and influence were too small to assign them any territory. Despite that, the larger clans agreed, that giving charge to too many different clan leaders might disrupt the centralization of planning and protection.
Due to that, some minor and major unrests went through the confederation, rarely resulting in conflicts, skirmishes, or even war.
