Juno is a gas giant in the Aldyn system, known for its dark red appearance. The planet has a dark red hue with lines of almost glittery red that make it easily visible like a star at night, sometimes called Juno's Star. The planet is mostly composed of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, the interactions of which create the distinctive red and black hues. The planet's high atmospheric pressure results in frequent, violent storms. The planet is mostly unlivable and features few harvestable materials, but has a number of small moons and small areas of habitable space called shadow belts.
Position in Space
Juno is the seventh planet from Aldyn's sun, between Kalash and
Borea. Despite its distance from the sun, Juno has temperate temperates from light held in by the ammonia and hydrogen sulfide outer lair and has areas of very high heat thanks to the extreme reactions that occur deep within the planet. Juno has never had a full time civilization living in its atmosphere until just the last hundred or so years through new advancements in space technology and new discoveries of the shadow belts' unusual qualities.
The Shadow Belts
Juno has vast "shadow belts" – regions of the atmosphere where the light barely penetrates, creating zones of near-total darkness interrupted by glowing red storms.
Because of the unusual qualities of the atmosphere and gas body of the planet, the planet has extreme storms, haze, turbulence, and strange wing gusts that seem to appear from nowhere. Yet most of this is stopped in the shadow belts. Scientists despite years of study do not have a clear answer for why. It appears that there may be some incredibly deep semi-solid surface to the planet of extremely compressed gas that makes this possible, but the core is far too hot and preasurized for travel.
Within the last few hundred years, sky cities have begun to be built on Juno, making usage of Juno's beautiful view of space and the moons around the planet to become a great place for retirement, resort living, or just forging a new community. However, the cost of living there is extreme, as sky cities require special cabling to stay afloat and need very extensive location planning because even within the shadow belts some extreme weather can leak in at some places.
