The Kalos Dominion
The Kalos Dominion is a loose connection of islands and city-states that exist across the coast and within the continent of Scala, bordering and constantly warring with the ancient and powerful Province of Zaramoor. Controlled by the various Archons and Archonas, Kalos keeps a loose unity with each city holding to its own based culture, often leading to inner conflict that undermines their attempts at working as a single entity.
Structure
- Archon/Archona: The Archons are the kings and leaders of the various city-states throughout the realm of Kalos. While some may hold councils and courts, others can stand as isolated rulers.
Culture
- Reverence of the Gods: The Kalosi people believe that their gods walk among them in flesh and form. As such, they hold them in truly strong belief and value, leaving offerings and giving prayer and presenting other forms of sacrifice and dedication.
Territories
The City-State Dominions of Kalos are vast and many, most compiled in the islands surrounding the Scala mainland while others have managed to attach and build despite the constant warring with their neighbors. Below are the main city-states and their godly patrons, as well as the main things they are known for:
- Phineas: Also known as the City of Twisting Fortunes, Ebreas is a hive for dark dealings, corruption, chaos, and political intrigue, formed for the dark god Phenax. Once being known as the city of Erebos before being taken over, the Tower of Nyx sits above all of the city, a necropolis where people come to meet their ancestors or speak to the dead in hopes of gaining the wisdom of the beyond. The Than'maska, the ancient organization of assassinations and diviners in service to Erebos, also makes their headquarters here, unable to be uprooted by Phenax's invasion.
- Thassanora: This city, pledged to the goddess of the sea Thassa, is a massive market hub and the center for all trade throughout the land of Kalos, breeding the best merchants and the best sailors alike, and constructing ships born for both war and travel.
- Pharyx Valley: A small city built at the top crown of an endless valley of herbs, the world's finest healers and treaters are trained here, as well as master poisoners and alchemists training in the shadow of the Greencliffs.
- Pharos: A grand metropolis that spans nearly the whole of the landmass it sits upon, Pharos, born of Ephara, believes that it is the greatest city of this or any age to come. Holding law and organization highly into account, Pharos is the driving force between the unity of all of the different city-states into one singular Dominion.
- Karaleos: This large crescent-shaped city is built by the coast and overlooking a massive field of wheat, orchards, and beautifully bountiful farmland, gifted to them by their named patrons Heliod and Karametra. It is well-known to be the source of most of the outsourced food that is sent between Kalos' various dominions, and as such is heavily protected.
- Nylios: Centered within an immense jungle that storms over the mainland of Scala, this large city shares borders with the Province of Zaramoor and weaves through and beneath the trees, using their massive roots and trunks to house towers roads, and halls.
- Megaris: Otherwise known as the City of Red and White, Megaris serves as the divine city of Iroas and Mogis alike, and the breeder of the finest soldiers in the world, born in a harsh and regimented lifestyle that gives everyone the same chance to prove themselves strong. Race, gender, or creed do not matter, as it is in usefulness and courage that Megaris measures its people. While the differing philosophies of both gods cause plenty of infighting, the people of Megaris can always agree on the wish that they do not want to be controlled or told what to do by any other entity. As such, they have a constant grudge with the city of Pharos and their attempts to unify the coast.
- Hymnkera: The mountainous city of clouds, storm, and rain named for its god Keranos, Hymnkera holds the world's wisest and most intellectual poets, philosophers, bards, and creators the world has ever seen, most traveling here to engage in the torrential storm of creativity residing within its walls.
- Phos Phoras: A large city built under a lip of volcanic rock at the high mountains of the Phorosian Gap volcano, Phos Phoras is a city of smiths and forging, a place where people make the pilgrimage to earn the weapons they will use to forge legends. Giants reside here as it is their ancestral homeland, elusive and keen to withhold their legendary knowledge from all except those who are deemed worthy.
- The Nyxian Maw: A colossal pit of caverns and falling sea, this is the entrance to the Underworld of Nyx, ruled by the god Erebos and the other immortals alike.
- The Kruphix Vein: Also known as the Tartyx, the constant river that connects each of the realms of Nyx together sits filled with endless horizon and sky, formed from the blood of the god himself.
