Order of the Arcane

Introduction

The Order of the Arcane was an early organization of mages born out of necessity during the world's primordial era, when magic was a nascent, untamed force. This group of individuals discovered their capacity to channel the raw energies of existence itself, leading to unpredictable results that were both beneficial and harmful.

Formation and Early Years

The initial formation of the Order was more of a loosely connected fellowship than a structured institution. Fearing societal backlash, these self-proclaimed mages lived in isolation and shrouded their gatherings in secrecy. Meetings were characterized by an exchange of knowledge and frequent disputes, as each member had unique perspectives on magic's purpose and nature.

Structure and Purpose

As magic proved to be an enduring phenomenon, with children demonstrating the same inherent capabilities, it became apparent that a formal system was required to manage and guide these burgeoning talents. Unsupervised, these young individuals could incite disaster, their uncontrolled power posing a significant threat to those around them. This recognition led to the evolution of the Order of the Arcane from an informal gathering into a structured institution.

Challenges and Influence

Over the years, the Order had to grapple with numerous challenges, including internal discord over magic's interpretation and application, power struggles, and threats from external entities wary of their abilities. They often engaged in covert wars to ensure their survival, with the general population remaining largely unaware of these struggles. However, the Order also played a crucial role in averting numerous potential magical disasters.   The Order's most infamous act occurred during The Battle of Rankin . With their escape route blocked by the Krugar warriors and backed against the ocean, the Order's four archmages turned to a powerful spell from the ancient book of spells, the Zenithex. The spell resulted in widespread devastation, poisoning all of Krugarlond and leading to mutations among its people.

Dissolution and Legacy

The Order of the Arcane was officially dissolved three years after the Battle of Rankin by the Kingdom of Eryndor. However, the Order's principles and structure lived on. Centuries later, the Conclave of the Keepers was established, incorporating many aspects of the Order's original design and ideologies.
