Phlogiston, often referred to as 'the Flow' to experienced travelers, is a term that refer to the multicolored space between the Crystal Sphere that enclosed the solar systems of the worlds. The rainbow-colored fluidic gas is not made up of any known elemental material and is considered extremely flammable when exposed to fire and breathable air.

The phlogiston around the Alanspace cystral sphere, that is home to the world Aldern, swirls in chaotic hurricane like patterns. These 'storms' become more violent the closer to the sphere one gets. It is liked, in Marou Poulou guide, the Book of the Marvels from Beyond Aldern, as being as if the sphere itself is trying to repel the phlogiston.
