Haithfia (hath FEE ah)
Ninth Province, South
Haithfia, officially known as Haithfia Tranquillus Res Publica (Most Serene Republic of Haithfia), called historically the Ninth Province during the reign of the Republic of Lakorth, is a sovereign state in Slavyum, east of the Plashin Range on the coast of the Shura Waters of the Aabanu Sea. Established as a province of the Republic of Lakorth, the state gained its independence soon after the decline of the Republic. In their early years of independence the Haitha struggle, like so many during the Dark Era of Novyum history. The people eventually were able to find a footing and build their nation up thanks to the vast Gold resources in Whidel's Wall, a mountain range to the nation's west. Using this they established Haithfia Tranquillus Res Publica, built out of the foundations that the Lakortha had established in the southern regiuon of their province.
According to tradition Haithfia officially became a sovereign nation in 5697sc, but it wasn't until 6546sc and the discovery of the gold in Whidel's Wall that the nation became a beacon of stability in a region where so few others existed. With their resources, the Haitha have been able to keep themselves out of conflicts since and maintained themselves as a strong political presence through the age that followed since their establishment. While Haithfia is called a republic, as Lakorth was before it, it is in name only. Haithfia is ruled by a council of the wealthiest noble estates. While there are votes with this council, these are largely ceremonial or enacted for financial and political maneuvering of the noble estates rather than for the common people. The council has relatively little to do with the everyday life of the Haitha and is largely out of the mind of everyday folks of the nation. The only concern the commoner are interested when it comes to the council and nobles is that they keep Haithfia free and as far away from the wars that plague the rest of Novyum as possible. To do this the council usually negotiates trades or tributes with other nations from their gold mines, to supplicate and keep hostile nations uninterested in attacking Haithfia. In the modern day the council is paying Gonthram a hefty tribute to keep the aggressive expansionist nation away, while also spending gold, secretly winning alliances with local and foreign mercenary for the inevitable day the Gonthra are no longer satisfied with the tributes and want the land.
Haithfia has a love/hate relationship with their neighbors in Lechlan to the west. The two have held mutual defense treaties that make other nations question attacking the two wealthy nations. However, both nations control mines in Whidel's Wall, and disputes over territory are common. Violence is rare but not unheard of, though these fights are largely kept to local miners, rather than political battles. Some believe the two nations would go to war were to not for both facing threats on their side of the Novyum divide.
