A cradle-tale is a short story, often with a moral lesson for children. They often include fantastical locations, creatures, or mythical characters. In the past the term has a great sugnificantce in high society, focusing on the moral side of the tales. In the modern day it is largely a term used for a whimsical idea with no bearing on reality.
