Clan Sadu

Dwarves of Maarm Mountain

In Dwarf tradition the Clan Sadu is considered one of the two founding clans of Dwarven kind on Aldern, along with the Clan Matu. Dwarf history claims they and the Matu were the Kefid people of prehistory, who came to dwell within Khavit Cavern during the era of ice of the Randagri Period. The people settled their new home, with the Sadu carved homes along the walls, while the Matu building structures on the cavern floor.

Written in the Stonefoot Carvings, the Sadu and Mati struggling to survive the surface world of Cutting Mountains covered in glaciers. Starving and hunted by the Dragon of old, these people were guided by divine light down a glacier cave, into the depths of Maarm Mountain. There they found Khavit Cavern. A massive cavern covered in food and water. The warm cavern kept the people safe from the dragons above. The two clans built a city for the first dwarves. This laid the first foundations of the Kephic Empire that would follow.

As the population grew in Khavit, it was the Sadu that expanded out beyond the cavern, returning to the surface as the glaciers receded. They suffered in the Gilgurth aftermath. Those that survived, were scattered, returned to dwellings in caverns below the mountains. Though a disaster for the clan, it spread the dwarves through the mountains, with nearly all clans of today, claiming they descend for the Sadu line of early dwarves.

Statues of Sadu the Wise can be found throughout the Cutting Mountains. Often these statues are depicted in the dwarven city centers. It a mistake of the uneducated to think these statues depict a man named Sadu, the founder of Clan Sadu. To the dwarves, however, and their understanding of history, these statues do not depict a man, but a people. While there may have been a Sadu in history, and he may have founded the clan of his name, the clan has long surpassed the man in legend. The name Sadu in every Stonefoot Carving is always considered to be depicting the clan.
