Black Dragon
Shadow Dragon
Black dragons, sometimes called shadow dragons, or bone dragons, are the rarest of all Dragon types on the major continent of Ethae. There is only one confirmed to exists, Pakhanga the Black Death, and a second that is not confirmed to be a black, or be anything more than ancient myth, Gissru the Shadow. As such, unlike most dragons, there is little known information of these dragons. One can only glean information of these dragon types by what we know of Pakhanga.
Where Green Dragon love the intrigue of plots and twists, and Red Dragon thrive in the power of brute force, the blacks seem to revel in destruction for the sake of it. Death is their power, cruelty their weapon. Pakhanga is known to appear, destroy anything in its sight and vanish again for years, relishing the terror he brought. Even his cult followers were not safe from his whimsical murder sprees. These dragons do not want to rule or control, they want to end all things.
From what is known, black dragons make their lairs in swampy lands, where water stagnates. They are known to litter the swamp around their lairs with the carcasses of kills, letting the bodies bloat and rot, spoiling the swamp with decay.
If Pakhanga is anything to go by, black dragons do not often eat intelligent creatures, preferring fish and other aquatic meats. They will supplement this with red meat like cows, goats, and the like. The humanoid creatures they kill are trophies to float in their marshes, little more than decomposing trophies for the dragon.
Black dragons are believed to be created in a Shadowfell. How is unknown. Of the two dragons that existed, one comes from the myths of the prehistoric periods and the other, Pakhanga, is at least fifteen hundred years old, that we know of, and not a creature that can easily be studied.
