Balera, God of Strength, War, and Healing

Balera is best represented as the mighty paternal parent. Vigilant, forceful, dominating, rarely open to persuasion, convinced that the world is composed in black and white terms. Balera is a god of the punishing rebuke, the corrective action which is painful, the hard truth, the medicine which burns away the evil but most often consume the good flesh with it. Balera is not a god of compassion – repentance is paid for through right act or suffering. Mercy is not often an aspect of Balera's faithful – mercy is weakness and leaves the faithful open for the encroachment of corruption. Make no mistake, Balera is not a god of torture nor is Balera a god of any sort of masochism or sadism. If redemption is sought in the eyes of Balera, the creature seeking redemption must choose a path which will burn away the sin from their soul. Often, however, the only redemption is a swift and merciful death so their soul can be judged on Orcus' scales, if mercy is to be had. Of course, one may not understand why the Hospitilars count themselves amongst the followers of Balera – it would seem that they seek and apply mercy in varying degrees. In it’s truest form, this is not so. Hopitilars seek to redeem the weak flesh so that it may be strong to follow Balera’s light. Hospitilars seek paths of redemption for those that have strayed or for those that wish to join the faith. Hospitilars provide death for those who have been so afflicted by corruption that this mortal world can no longer provide a path of redemption. Realistically, however, many Hospilitars fall prey to their practice see redemption in all souls – this is not the way of Balera. Balera is most often symbolized by iconography of strength – a mailed fist, a judging sword, the scales of justice (often with a hint of what is in store for those that fail), the wooden cudgel (with which the flesh is beaten), or the scourge. Balera is a god of physical and martial strength, swift and inescapable violence, and definitive judgement.. Balera's plane of existence is Kharis-Tor.
