Lysander Sand, The Gladiator
Early Life
Born in A381 in the city of Sarkarth, Lysander bore the surname "Sand," a mark of bastardy in the harsh desert of Ardune Sai. Orphaned at birth, he was taken in by a struggling fisherman’s family who earned meager wages on the edges of a city renowned for its wealth and splendor. Though his early years were shaped by hardship, Lysander's life took a darker turn at the age of five. Desperate to settle a crushing debt, his caretakers made the heart-wrenching decision to surrender him to The Red Hands, a ruthless criminal organization feared across the realm. The Fighting Pits
The Red Hand organization had its fingers woven into countless city dealings, including the infamous and world-renowned fighting pits of Sarkarth. While the pits were a spectacle to the public, most fights were orchestrated behind the scenes, serving as a means for the Red Hands to amass gold and entangle influential figures in a web of debt. Larger and stronger than most his age, Lysander was an obvious candidate for pit fighting. The training was relentless, designed to forge him into a weapon. Lysander learned to endure pain, mastered the art of combat, and grew into a formidable fighter. By the age of 14, he debuted under the stage name The Sea Serpent, wielding a fisherman’s net and a trident as his signature weapons. A year later, he achieved a controversial victory in a fixed match against an older, highly renowned fighter. The upset caused a stir among the pit’s patrons, cementing Lysander’s reputation. After his victory, a man named Frode approached him. Frode, a former member of the Valiant Vagrants, had won a fortune betting on Lysander’s fight. As a gesture of gratitude, he extended an open invitation to visit his newly acquired tavern, located in Sy'ill.Fleeing to Freedom
In A402, Lysander received an unexpected letter from Frode, inviting him to join The Guild of Heroes. By then, at 21, Lysander had grown weary of the pits. The letter offered him hope for a fresh start, but leaving the Red Hands was no small feat. Fearing their wrath, Lysander used his winnings to hire a smuggler, Sahir Sandstryder, to guide him to Sy’ill. Together, they braved the harsh northern regions of Ardune Sai and the Arid Crown mountains. Sahir departed when they reached Sy'ill, and Lysander made the rest of the journey alone. By year’s end, he had reached the Moldy Crow.Life in The Guild
Today, Lysander is a respected member of the Guild of Heroes. Known for his larger-than-life personality and penchant for embellishing tales of his exploits, he often becomes the life of any gathering. Despite his boastful nature, he is deeply admired for his skill and generosity. He spends much of his time in the Guild’s training grounds, sparring with younger members and teaching them how to infuse finesse and flair into their fighting techniques.Dialogue
