Petronela was born into the wealthy Weiss family In the year A380, on the continent of Midwin. Founders of The Weiss Trading Company, The Weiss family had forged a trading empire. For over two centuries, the company had served as the primary conduit for the Vydern Empire’s acquisition of rare and luxurious goods from the newly explored continent of Alboric, mainly Elderglass . However, as the Empire's influence in Alboric grew, Petronela’s father, wary of the potential disruption to their profitable relationship, was selected to establish a new operational base in The Gift. In A386, the Weiss family would leave Midwin behind, embarking on a perilous journey across the Elderborn Sea to begin anew in Alboric.A Thirst for Knowledge
From a young age, Petronela had a heart for adventure—a trait her mother despised but her father quietly encouraged. Though bound to the family business, he had always longed for a life beyond it. Seeking new ways to harvest Elderglass, he funded expeditions into the ancient dungeons of Alboric, where the prized material was often found. Whenever it was safe, he would bring Petronela—whom he affectionately called Nessie—to help survey the ruins once traps had been disarmed and monsters vanquished. She was captivated by the remnants of lost civilizations, often pouring over arcane texts her father procured from The Helioluna High Mage Academy, eager to unravel their mysteries. At sixteen, with her father’s secret blessing, Petronela left behind her old life to join a band of aspiring dungeoneers. To avoid the weight of the Weiss family name, she introduced herself simply as Nessie. Among her new companions, she grew especially close to Oriana Klein, a former imperial soldier with a passion for gunpowder, and Aveline, a paladin of The Devout whom they fondly dubbed “Sister Stoic.” Together, the small band scoured the land for forgotten ruins, chasing rumors of lost treasures and ancient secrets. As they delved deeper into the mysteries of the past, Petronela meticulously recorded the architecture, traps, creatures, and all other wonders hidden within the dungeons they explored. The group had a falling out in A389, but Petronela continued her explorations alone, driven by an insatiable thirst for discovery. In A402, Petronela published her groundbreaking work, Ruins of an Old World, a novel detailing her discoveries, complete with intricate illustrations of the ancient murals she encountered on her journeys. Her work soon caught the attention of Ysara, a scholar from the prestigious Helioluna High Mage Academy, who specialized in the history of Alboric and the study of elderglass. Intrigued by Petronela’s findings, Ysara sought her out, and together, they embarked on an expedition into the deepest dungeons of the land. As they delved into the ruins, uncovering long-buried secrets, they stumbled upon a revelation that would change the understanding of magic as it was known.A Friend of The Guild
Despite her frequent involvement in Guild affairs, Petronela has repeatedly declined invitations to join the Guild of Heroes, much to the frustration of the Guild Council. In A406, Lady Weiss leveraged her surname to secure a lucrative contract between the Guild of Heroes and the Weiss Trading Company, significantly bolstering the Guild’s funds. Later that year, Petronela reported alarming findings of increased undead activity and led an expedition to uncover its source—an effort that proved crucial in the battles leading up to the Undead Invasion in A408. Lady Weiss, despite her young age, is a well-known figure across the land. Heroes of the Guild often seek her counsel, and she has even been known to take on quests from the Guild’s Duties board. Using her considerable wealth, she acquired a sprawling estate naming it Weiss Manor in the Brighthearth settlement, which has become a favored gathering place for adventurers and Guild heroes alike. Her estate is so renowned that even Guild Council members occasionally conduct official business within its halls. Amused by the unspoken rivalry between them due to her unwanted but often needed involvement in The Guild, Petronela never fails to extend an invitation to Elara Wolfsong, the esteemed leader of the Guild of Heroes, for each of her gatherings.
