Queen Elcu fab Angharad
Elcu is the 2nd Odonata queen of Beltane, after her mother Angharad Nemeta overpowered the Bljan of Beltane and seized the throne. The Nemeta clan are a prestigious family in the Odonata culture, Nemeta meaning 'those who are sacred'. They were made such by assisting the tribe through times of famine with piracy and robbery, and becoming adept highway thieves. In the early times, they allied Sheena's forgotten projects in Mebyon Koid (forest of sons), and taught them their language of songs. It is why, in part, the double walkers in the ever-growing Mebyon Koid often sound as if they are singing in the forest.
She will be known for marrying Maugris, a Senuna nobleman with links to blood trafficking rings and an oath-breaker. Initially this had been Madryn's bethrothed, as he brought with him an alliance between the early guilds in Beltane and the more powerful ones in the Fra Sparga Republic, allowing Odonata to pass more freely in the north and put pressure on the Bljan. Madryn dealt with Maugris' checkered double life easily, for she was a mischevious and resilient child, but Elcu who was much more sheltered and carefree, looked down on him.
Elcu is a sensitive and forgiving woman as her environment and preferential treatment from her mother allowed her to be, but she cannot forgive her sister for throwing that burden on her by betraying their parents and getting in the accident in the forest. She however became increasingly jaded as backlash from the sudden exposure to all harsh, dirty, and criminal elements of the world, the things her mother had sacrificed and all of the evils her brother and sister had hidden from her, including the crimes for her husband.
The outcry from Maugris' crimes, the pressure of Deywos at her heels, and still without an heir, she ran away to the mountains with her shadow queen. She made a pact with a Gwyll in the mountains to not let Beltane fall back into Bljan hands so long as she and her heir were alive. The Gwyll told her to bring luck and health to she and her future daughter, two family members would be sacrificed of luck, and they would be random. Elcu agreed. She still wears the necklace the Gwyllion gave her.
The two who would be cursed are Maugris, who would die a violent and restless death, and Rianu, who developed mountain sickness and would eventually betray her for Madryn.Relationships
