Kingdom of Bleak Farrow
Overview
The Ashura, one of the most enigmatic and proud races of Lendil, have long dwelled in the harsh southeastern lands of Bleak Farrow, a region defined by dry grasses, swampy wetlands, and a sometimes unforgiving terrain. Despite this, they have transformed this land into a thriving, albeit militaristic, society. The Ashura are a people whose appearance, culture, and traditions set them apart from any other race in Lendil. With golden eyes and the mythical Ashurakaga, a third eye that remains closed for most of their lives, the Ashura exude an air of mystery and power.
The heart of Ashura society lies in their strict warrior culture, where proving oneself in battle or a duel is paramount. They believe that their origins trace back to a divine connection with the Demi-Gods, and the only way to truly honor that heritage is by showing strength through conflict and survival. It is this belief that drives the Ashura’s desire to test themselves, often pushing to the brink of death in a quest to “Awaken” their Ashurakaga and unlock unimaginable magical powers, known as Gandur Magic.
Governance and Awakening
At the core of Ashura governance is the concept of “Awakening.” Only those who have undergone the dangerous and transformative process of Awakening are considered fit to hold positions of power. The highest-ranking Ashura in the land is the Ankra Ahal, or the Awakened Lord, who leads the kingdom and represents the ultimate authority. Beneath the Ankra Ahal are the Lords of the Council, a group made up of those who have reached significant ranks after their Awakening. This structure ensures that only the most battle-tested and worthy individuals lead the Ashura, with positions of authority tied directly to military success.
Ashura culture places high value on strength and personal honor, which is why dueling is a common means of resolving disputes. The most famous of these duels was one that saw the reigning Ankra Ahal, Lethos Angirus III, bested by Banner Lord Breta Moondance in a game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” a duel that changed the kingdom’s leadership and became law for all subsequent challenges. These moments of dramatic shift highlight the Ashura’s unique belief that everything, even the smallest contest, can determine a worthy ruler. The Ashura’s primary export is their martial prowess. Their mercenaries, known for their fearlessness and unparalleled combat skills, are highly sought after across the continent. Additionally, the Ashura excel in creating strongholds and fortifications, an art reflected in their cities and military infrastructure. They maintain a strong trade relationship with neighboring kingdoms, especially with Malius, where their reputation as fierce warriors has earned them high regard.
