The Brothers Three Myth in Akun | World Anvil

The Brothers Three

Below, one may find a copy of the rhyme to the Brothers Three.

  Running about along the lake,
Evade nightfall before they take, take, take.
Giant swimming hunters will hide and wait,
Raising a spell will make you their bait, bait, bait.
The Brothers Three wish to feed their homes.
And especially hunt for those filled with less bones.
Armor, shields, and metal tastes bleh;
And for any with the Ambience, one could hear heh, heh, heh
Their heavy pincers smash and thrash,
While their cruel hungers makes one exhaust & begin to crash, crash, crash.
Be careful of the Gift Stealers,
Or you may be foregone before seeing your healers.
Listen to mother and avoid the beasts,
Or you may end up as their feast, feast, feast.

Summary

The nursery rhyme is taught to children, especially ones living in connection to the World Tree. Gift Stealers are a parasitic species that are drawn towards strong magical energy of arcane nature (The Ambience). Every time a group of them are defeated, it seems like the next sighting of the species is of a stronger variation than the last. They are considered highly dangerous especially for scholars, thus why the Moonlight Ravens establish their guild towers within Cities or heavily fortified positions.

Historical Basis

The Brothers Three are monstrous creatures known as Gift Stealers. The story name is in reference to their triad hunting tactics.

The Brothers Three are depicted as shambling entities. Their tentacle beards hiding their throat lasher from the common eye. Their bodies hewn with flotsam & jetsam, water weeds, mud, barnacles, and shells. Their sizeable grasp allows for easy capture of those they pursue. Underneath the attached accessories, their bodies are hard shell with flexible muscle underneath. Their blood is a noxious purple.
