Rakust

While a dwarf, technically, Rakust strove to be much more. He dedicated his life to studying the arcane, the weird, and the taboo. While he proved invaluable during the War of Undeath in defeating the dread lich, he eventually fell prey to his own curiosity, becoming, at least in part, the same monster he once fought.   Rakust appeared outwardly to be a typical dwarf, albeit rather dishevelled: stocky, dark-haired, and brusque. His primary study was alchemy, so he was rarely seen without strange vials of liquids, jars of monster parts, and virulent powders about his person, staining his hands, and sometimes stuck in his beard.   After the War of Undeath, he took to intensive independent study, unbeknownst to his comrades at GAARD. By the time it was re-branded the Akkadian Defenders, he had secrety created an underground magical dungeon of sorts beneath the manor, which he used to conduct bizarre magical experiments, ranging from planar travel to necromancy and beyond.   When he began using Akkadian citizens as test subjects, his experiments finally got out of hand, and the authorities picked up his trail. Eventually, new recruits to the Akkadian Defenders tracked him down, raided his underground workshop, and eventually killed him.   The ultimate goal of his works were left undefined, as he died without leaving any type of manifesto or even a to-do list.
