Session 5: The Challenge Report
General Summary
Having successfully cleared a path out of the keep and rescued villagers trapped in the local temple, the party is relieved by Governor Nighthill, who believes that the bandits do not pose a threat to the keep itself. They plan to take a well-earned rest...
Session
The party is roused from their well-deserved (and much-delayed) rest by a commotion at the front gate. A half-dragon named Langdedrosa Cyanwrath, one of the leaders of the raid, demanded their presence, and explained that he wanted to fight one-on-one with one of them. He had four prisoners with which to bargain, but Uthal took the challenge without prompting. The children were released, but the fourth, a woman, was kept hostage to prevent the interference from the other adventurers. Langdedrosa and Uthal fought, and Langdedrosa was the victor. However, he left Uthal unfinished, and Nutmeg was able to rescue him from the brink of death. As the half-dragon left (keeping his promise and releasing the fourth prisoner), the last of the raiders slunk out of Greenest, and the raid ended. The party was at last released, and promptly passed out for eight hours. Around noon, they awoke, and began exploring the village. Uthal went straight to the smithy to forge four handaxes and begin work on some splint mail using the scraps of armor gathered from the fallen raiders. Egan went to the temple, intending to complete some morning ceremonies there, but chose to do them out in a field instead. Jawn wandered the village, offering his magical services to assist in repairs. And Nutmeg bounced around, streaming conversation as she went. Somewhere around 2pm, guards located the adventurers and summoned them back to the keep, where Governor Nighthill asked if they would be willing to follow the raiders and find out where they are camped, who leads them, what their numbers are, and where they plan to strike next. He and the other village leaders offer 250gp apiece for this information, as well as any gear they might need to accomplish this mission. The party accepted. As they left the keep, though, they were approached by Nesim Waladra, who begged them to search for Leosin Erlanthar, who was apparently captured during the raid. He has supposedly been following the raiders for months, and knows them better than anyone - his knowledge would be invaluable. As he was also someone who had saved Egan's life some years back, and as the one who sent word to Egan to come to Greenest, Egan was highly motivated to find him, and the party happily added him to their to-do list.Character Input
Nutmeg, awakened from an insufficient rest, was disoriented after a dream of pirates and cannons, and arguing dwarves in a pub, blinked around blearily and asked about having crumbs from someone's breakfast tart. Thrilled to have been asked up to the walls and catwalks of the Keep, Nutmeg immediately started searching for the Battle Mints that the architecture was surely named for. Fortunately, Jawn distracted her with crumbs from a prestidigitated breakfast tart.Missions/Quests Completed
