M'djani's Plateau
About the place where the M'djani damai clan found refuge after the Awakening.
Feeling the atmosphere:
A rude damai survivalist takes a quick glare at you before talking:"What you're looking for strangers?
Are you one of those other-worlders coming to make some profit out of our misery, or worse by pity?"
The look becomes hostile.
"We don't need you to survive this land, it's ours. We have fought for it, bled and suffered for it."
He reach an arm to the gray and white lands beneath the city of Baako, showing the harsh plain of cracked salt.
"There stranger, lay our richess, and our misfortune, when the ocean becomes vapor the heavy crust of salt comes to the surface and now it not only protects us but becomes one of our main source of income!"
He smiles kindlier.
"Oh... You don't go away?"
Seeming surprised.
"So let me tell you more about the place we call... Home."

Located in what was once a closed sea, named Taelys, the Isle of Salt is an island arc, borned from a magmatic resurgence. Before the Awakening an hypersaline sea surrounder this land, and the local continental shelf present a heavy crust of salt deposit. Now that the only source of fresh water, the remaining of the once great Naatys ocean, is closed by the newly born volcano arc of Ioti, there is no hope for the sea to cover this land once again What remain of the three main islands Kuula, Dida and Ila form now the bases of what is named the "M'djani's Plateau". This rocky and volcanic land own a rich soil, largely put to good use by the local survivalist. Scenario Hook : During a massive space battle, or the epic fight between two Colossi (certainly du to some players shenanigans), a fault appear in the volcanic arc of Ioti and the ocean can run free and flood the land...Flora and Fauna :
The local fauna and flora are richer than most of what could be found on this devastated planet. Both because the islands ecosystems were more diverse in term of raw species numbers, and the M'djani clan takes the challenge of keeping this biodiversity seriously. Two species are considered representative of this island: the Ouekou also named "Push-Ups" birds (due to their strange mating ritual), and the Sanana a local fruit tree renowned for the sweetness of their taste and their strange whitish color. But the more significant specie of the hyper fauna are the Colossi, in this land as everywhere else in this cursed planet. And this plateau had it's how nightmare, a Kyokor nicknamed "Sit'Hembile's Laughting Death". Scenario Hook : Obviously you can use the local terror, what if during a festival a lot of damai representatives from other clan are welcomed in Baako ? And all becomes worse when the Laughting Death invited itself to the event?Natural Resources :
The M'djani Plateau is a particularly rich region due to the large amount of natural resources available. The most importants one are : the salt crust itself, containing large amount of crude oil and strange fossils of begone time, the vivid soil due to the volcanic past of the island insuring generous harvests and finally the core of the extinct volcanoes making great refuge for the population. Scenario Hook : What if, during the extraction of the salt, bones of what seems to be a Colossi of an older time are discovered ? It will affect most of what is known about them. But things can get spicier if the drilled bones aren't as dead as it seems.

This map was done for the Call of Cartography challenge (via Inkarnate and Powerpoint...), mostly to complete the background of my character Ekundayo M'djani. All the informations about the location, clan etc. are from my design, and vaguely inspired from the Mandji island (now Port-Gentil) in Gabon and the Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC)
