Wyrd Sorcerer
Those rare individuals who feel the pull of the Wyrd and choose to embrace it become mages. Sorcerer is the term preferred by those who wish to sperate themselves from other magic practitioners, especially since there is a difference between the Aeldrich Scholar and sorcerer in what they focus on and how their magic manifests. Sorcerers bend the Wyrd through sheer will vs intense study.
Career
Qualifications
To be considered a "Sorcerer" does not take much, sometimes even being labelled arbitrarily by others should one show proclivity for magic. The only real factors needed to be considered a true wizard is an active intellectual study of the Wyrd and its use in the form of spells. This focus on spellcasting through their will is what separates them from those who study runes and arcane-powered technology.
Career Progression
Even the most well studied and powerful sorcerers started in the same place: curiosity. Once a sorcerer has started to delve into the mysteries of the Wyrd, an obsession eventually takes hold. Eventually, a sorcerer is likely to amass a collection of both knowledge and artifacts while growing greatly in power along the way.

Demographics
Those who become mages come from all walks of life, but they all have a moment that sparks their desire to know more about their power and to grow it. It is this spark that pushes them to bend the wyrd according to their own will.

Dangers & Hazards
The danger of pursuing magic and opening one's mind to the secrets of the Wyrd is that a powerful sorcerer often borders on madness. The Wyrd twists the mind, driving many of the most powerful sorcerers insane before they eventually cause their own downfall.

Author's Notes
This is the D&D equivalent to the sorcerer, at least in my intent. While still very much an Willpower-based pursuit of magic, this is more of a focus on someone naturally finding and searching for knowledge/power versus it being a point of academic study. That is more the purview of the Aeldrich Scholar .
