Graveborn

The Graveborn are a horrifying offshoot of ghouls found in the frigid, death-haunted corners of Aigusyl. Unlike their more Common kin, Graveborn rise not from rot and decay, but from flesh preserved in permafrost—bodies long buried beneath ice, forgotten in snow-choked battlefields, or lost in glacial tombs.

Their appearance is both eerie and mournful: skin stretched tight and pale over rigid limbs, with black-blue veins of necrotic frost threading beneath. Their mouths are filled with jagged, ice-encrusted teeth, and their eyes burn with a cold auroral light. Wherever they roam, they bring the silence of snowfall and the dread of something long buried returning with purpose.

Graveborn hunger not just for flesh, but for memory—devouring the dead to steal whispers of who they were. It is said they sometimes mimic their victims, speaking in fragmented voices or imitating long-lost gestures, as though trying to remember what it meant to be alive. In this way, they do not merely feast—they haunt.

Found mostly in the Glacial Echoes, they are feared by travelers and tribes alike, and even The Frigid Synod—who preaches control through ice—treats them as aberrations. To face a Graveborn is to face a shadow of the past that refuses to rest, and a chilling reminder that in the cold, nothing ever truly decays… it simply waits.

Graveborn Traits

Size: Medium (4-6ft)

Speed: 30ft

As a Graveborn, you have these special traits.

Darkvision.

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Devour Corpse.

You can eat spoiled and rotten food as if it were fresh. Additionally, if you spend 1 minute eating flesh from the corpse of a Small or larger creature that isn’t a Construct, roll one of your Hit Point Dice without expending it (even if you have none remaining). You regain a number of Hit Points equal to the number rolled plus your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1 Hit Point). Once you regain Hit Points using this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a Short or Long rest.

Frozen Waste.

You have Resistance to Cold damage.

Infused Drakkonite.

When you damage a creature, you can ignore any Resistances it has, and it takes extra Necrotic damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus. Once you use this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a Short or Long rest.
