Mage's Chess Stadium

1st of Sun's Swell, AE 721
Located on the Quandrix campus, the Mage's Chess Stadium has a relatively modest set up. Connected to Torus Hall, it is an indoor stadium with bleachers which can seat up to 450 people (although it is rarely even at half capacity) around the grey and white checkered stage. The stage is made to mage's chess standards, featuring a six-by-eight board with each square measuring seven feet on each side, for total dimensions of fifty-six feet long by forty-two feet wide. The high ceiling above the stage is made of glass panels to allow in natural light, but additional lighting has been installed in the newly added catwalk.   When not being used by the Mage's Chess Club, it is occasionally used for events, magic demonstrations, or classes.

Alterations

Renovated over the summer of AE 716, the original elevated wooden platforms used by team luminaries at either of the far ends of the field were removed and replaced with more modern transparent catwalks, hung 30 feet above the stage, allowing luminaries to walk and observe more freely above their team members. The change was somewhat controversial; the wooden platforms were original to the building, and while they were showing signs of age and at the very least in need of repair, many were hesitant about the change to catwalks that had become more common in newer stadiums, in part due to cost, but also to nostalgia.   Ultimately, it was decided to upgrade, with part of the reasoning being that it was believed it would draw larger audiences. Some of the most memorable mage's chess luminaries throughout the history of the game were known not just for their intellect, but for their physicality and their temper when the game isn't going how they had hoped. Increasing their range of movement has seemed to make the game more entertaining for audiences.
