Avarin Swords

1st of Sun's Swell, AE 721

Spooktober Prompt: Relic

The Avarin swords are a matching pair of two-handed swords, used in the slaying of both Reszket and Féngos, inarguably two of the most powerful Lizdah era deities, and unceremoniously left in their rotting corpses until the present day. These relics date back to the most recent changing of eras, when Avari was a brand new deity, still wet behind the ears and in a stage when deities are typically at their most vulnerable. If the stories are to be believed, that shaky, unpolished divinity and a colossal sword were all Avari needed.   Stories of the two battles are epic and varied, but everyone knows the same end results: Reszket with a sword plunged through its parietal and exiting between jawbones, and Féngos pinned to a mountainside like an insect, a matching sword piercing where his sternum would have been. Both swords and corpses remain where they were abandoned, either left as a warning or simply deemed not worth retrieving.

Design

The Avarin swords are each of the same design, and despite being approximately 60 feet (18.3 meters) tall, they appear to have been modelled after a fairly common style of sword. Mainly produced in the region now belonging to the Chancellery of Elektrenai, they are similar to a longsword, being two-handed and having a cruciform hilt, but are proportionally longer. The pommels are carved to look like the head of a rattlesnake. Such designs were known to serve as a maker's mark in the region, and similar regular-sized swords have been found, although the name of the maker is not yet known.
