Weissgard
The castle of Weissgard was an isolated fortress, once belonging to the God-Queen’s favourite, the White Baron. It was a place of dark rumours, where the various barons who held it through the centuries were rumoured to conduct terrible experiments and breed the monsters that still stalk the White Barrens to this day.
After the War of Hubris, the fortress was given over to the Orders of the Forbidden, a mysterious and much-feared group of warriors with powers which border on the arcane, on the condition that they clear it of its remaining perils.
It is a mysterious place of shadows and foul odours, caged beasts and alchemical laboratories, and a dark reputation earned both before and since changing hands, but it is also the hub of a thriving and increasingly modern city which has grown up around the walls. Once a mere citadel, it is now the northern capital of Ardheim and a rival to Dreihaus for administrative control of the Barrens. The fact that this gives the Orders a not-inconsiderable electoral presence does not please some hardine members of the clergy.
Despite its dire reputation, the fortress's walls are beautiful, fashioned from finely-dressed, white stone, both the keep itself and the curtain wall of the bailey. It stands on the top of a rocky hill, with the modern city sprawling down the hill's flanks. Major civic buildings, such as the temple and the city hall, are made from the same white stone as the fortress, but the city wall around the base of the hill, and those residences and shop-buildings that are not made from wood are instead fashioned from local grey stone.
