Pyranoi

The Pyranoi are the Smoothfolk descended from the rebel faction whose dealings with Apyris brought about the fall of Anur-ket. Originally Anurin, the Pyranoi now bear a potent gen of fire which breeds truer than that of any Genasi bloodline of the modern World. Their bodies steam with heat, their skin is impervious to flame, and they can spit fire from their throats, but the dark fire in their veins also makes each pyranos a potential puppet to Apyris' will. As a result, Pyranoi society is a paranoid culture, where trust is folly and fear the common condition.
Pyranoi are physically similar to Anurin, but typically larger. They have the bodies of frogs or newts, but stand up to five feet tall with a bipedal stance. Pyranoi crave heat. Their skin is black, but heat causes it to glow, beginning with red patches, growing brighter and covering more of the body of the Pyranoi as they absorb more and more external heat. High status members of the lineage dwell in the volcanic caves below the Fire Nests. Artisans work in the upper caverns, while warriors live in camps set around volcanic vents. Labourers and academics - scholarship lacks the status it enjoys among the Anurin 'and the Anet - are relegated to surface settlements, heated only by the sun.
