Kobold Religion

While not all Kobolds are adherents of their ancestral faith - inasmuch as the personal and anarchic spirituality of the lineage can be called a faith - the warrens as social units overwhelmingly revere the Elder Wyrms Kulmurak and Bylstaran, the Shimmering Mind and the Relentless Fortune. Kulmarak, the creator of the kobolds, is worshipped as a god of defiance and right done in necessary secrecy. E sings to the kobolds in the depths of their bones, and sends guiding dreams to the Dragonspeakers. Bylstaran sends no dreams, and indeed gives little notice to prayers or attempts at communion. Many speculate that Bylstaran is reluctant, at best, to be a patron god of the kobolds. E is a god of justice and overt righteousness.   The elder wyrms are addressed directly by their priests, but the sworn warriors of the warren - the dragonshields who protect, and the answers who punish (ironically, in secret, despite falling under Bylstaran's more overt cult) - connect to them through the intercessary spirits called the Acolytes. Believed to be the sports of fallen Dragons, there are many Acolytes, and dragonshields organise themselves according to an aspect of their god that their patron represents. Each group of Acolytes is aligned to the linked, but opposing aspects.   The Acolytes of Kulmarak are:
  • The Acolytes of Wrath are the spirits of fire dragons, who represent Kulmarak's anger, but also eir righteousness.
  • The Acolytes of Anguish represent Kulmarak's suffering, and for capacity for sacrifice. They are believed to be the spirits of acid dragons.
  • The Acolytes of Scorn are dragonic spirits of cold, who stand for Kulmarak's disgust at the ruined World, and also eir transcendence above it.
  • The Acolytes of Mirth represent the humour and the cruelty of Kulmarak. They are seen as the spirits of lightning dragons.
  • The Acolytes of Doom are spirits of poison dragons, and represent the fatalism of Kulmarak, but also eir hope, and especially eir hope in eir creation.
  The Acolytes of Bylstaran are:
  • The Acolytes of Contemplation, draconic spirits of pure Magic representing Bylstaran's patience, and likewise eir frustration.
  • The Acolytes of Charisma are radiant dragons, and represent Bylstaran's spiritual counsel, but also eir inertia and resistance to change.
  • The Acolytes of Ecstasy are psychic draconic spirits, representing the Relentless Fortune's Dragonsong, and through it both the beauty and ugliness of life.
  • The Acolytes of Duty are thunder dragons, and represent Bylstaran's fury, but also his fears.
  • The Acolytes of Resilience are dragons of Necrosis, representing both the acceptance, and the defiance, of death.
