Exomaterials are
Relicts of the Colossi in the form of raw or fragmentary materials. They are broadly divided into the entirely alien xenomaterials, and the metamorphic paramaterials.
Xenomaterials
The most common xenomaterial is Voidspar. This substance is usually described as a black crystal, although it is not truly either of those things. Nor, by the strictest definitions, is it even a substance; rather, it is a dangerous accumulation of
Void energy in a pseudo-crystalline form. Its crystal-like structure is entirely transparent, but it somehow traps light, so that it not only appears a featureless, flat black, but actually casts shadows towards light sources.
Voidspar has three uses: It stores the energy of the Void (ifril), which can be extracted to power Eldritch Mechanisms or other Colossal magics; unextracted Void energy 'bleeds' into the world as the oily liquid known as Void Bile; and the crystal can be broken down for use in alchemical and mechanical work, most notably the forging of
Voidsteel.
Bearing superficial similarities to
arcanite, voidspar can be used as an arcane power source, but to do so is highly dangerous and damaging to the very fabric of reality, and likely to warp the magic it fuels.
Abyssite - which, despite its name, isn't actually related to the Abyss - is a metal used in outerfolk blades. Its touch accelerates the breakdown of any matter native to Aiaos, causing excessive bleeding, necrosis and sepsis on living creatures. Abyssite blades can also be used to corrode other materials.
Rivenwood is not a wood, but is believed to be derived from something approximating a plant and might be considered an exo-biological. It is used in outerfolk construction, weapons and clothes - in the form of Rivenweave, a stiff, heavy cloth made from rivenwood fibres - and unlike most xenomaterials it has the property of strengthening Worldly materials.
Hadarite is a reddish substance, somewhere between stone and metal. It provokes nausea in Aiaosian creatures and absorbs magical energy. Some groups use it in antimagical items, but as such it is prone to often catastrophic failure when 'full'. It can also drain energy from the one using the device. It has no specific connection to, but is named for, the Colossus Hadar.
Paramaterials
Void Bile is an oily, viscous condensate of Void energy that forms around voidspar deposits, apparently from the degeneration of Worldly matter. In time, it can crystalise into more Voidspar.
Bleakstone is a blanket term for minerals permeated by Void energy. They tend to be highly durable, but subject to sudden, catastrophic breakdown, degenerating explosively into uncontained Ifril under specific pressures. Carefully ground down, bleakstone powder makes a powerful explosive.
Deadsteel is a kind of metal depleted by hadarite exposure that is highly resistant to magical influence as a result.
Miasm is air altered by ifril exposure, and can also refer to a high concentration of ifril in an area, the equivalent of arcane flux. Either creates an unwholesome enviro
