Anur-teka
Anur-teka is the society that rose from the overthrow of Anur-tek by the Pyranoi. It is located in cloud forests between the central highlands of Suto and the Rania Delta, which is home to the city-state of Rania-ket. Its name means 'new place of the people.' As a whole, it is a more democratic and egalitarian society then its predecessor, although inequality is rife in the capital city, Anur-aket.
Formerly the university city of Roka-ket (city of the clouds), Anur-aket became a refuge for the decimated ruling houses of the old order. With their wealth lost, but the loyalty of the Tekarjen - an honorary guard formed of the second children of high families - the old ruling class established themselves as overlords of Roka-ket and renamed it Anur-aket (new city of the people.) They were no longer able to extend their influence much beyond the city, however. The largely Bofyrn army established an independent realm in the east, and the Aneft of the delta declared their independence.
Outside of Anur-aket, Anur-tek is administered by local assemblies, formed of a combination of landowners, religious leaders and leading members of the artisan's guilds and labour unions. The unions are a largely unique organisation, formed after the fall of Anur-tek to assert the rights of rural workers against the aristocracy, who were dispossessed and lashing out. As part of this, the unions organised vigilance patrols, which grew into the Vigil, the organisation which acts as both military and police force in modern Anur-teka. While not free of corruption, the Vigil's primary purpose is to prevent aristocratic government returning and oppressing the people.
Despite many efforts, Anur-aket has failed to reclaim the territory of the old empire, but the lowland forests now belong to the Consulate Martial, the quasi-military council of Cirok-jat.
