Bethorhan, Torment of Remorse

An archdevil, and one of the six Torments who rule the hells. He is notorious for torturing his souls with regret. Idols carved by his followers depict a large shoal draping over an inverted trapezoid shaped mask underneath. The visage on the mask can differ, some depict a frown as the only feature whilst other possess sorrowful eyes with tracks that meet and the bottom, however every mask is coated in thick varnish that drips down. These designs are based upon archives and theatrical materials recovered from Zossar.   Bethorhan typically recieves the souls of those who caused other to despair; bandits who steal from struggling merchants, soldiers that assault prisoners, politicians who extort commoners. No matter how proud and powerful they may be, they should all fear that one of their victims may whisper to Bethorhan.   When Bethorhan collects a soul, he places them into a state of perpetual empathy. These souls are then forced to relive all the actions in their life that have brought suffering unto others. These memories are relieved in various states; through their own eyes, the eyes of their victims, or as an unseen spectator. All the while, the soul has no way to prevent the pain they caused. They can only scream at their former selves in revulsion, and beg for forgiveness from their unhearing victims. For his own entertainment, Bethorhan may show a soul potential scenarios in which different actions were taken. He will show them all the good that could have come, if they had not allowed others to suffer, before he pulls them, screaming and kicking, back to the truth.   Many are fooled by Bethorhan's actions, into believing that the archdevil himself is emphatic to the suffering of those who call his name. The truth is that he finds empathy and remorse to be hilarious, and easily exploited flaws.
