The Arid Wastes
Structure
The Arid Wastes operate with a traditional royal family. A pure, royal bloodline of 100% dragons rules over the wastes. While the royal family is the figurehead of the government, the family does not have absolute rule over the country. In the past, the royal family had absolute control, but as the years went by, the royal family's power slowly diluted to a smaller and smaller amount. The royal family still has a large amount of sway and power within the wastes, but a group known as The Chronos Assembly rules alongside them. In recent years since Torrea's ascension to monarchy, The Chronos Assembly has actively fought against the royal family, wishing to eliminate their power entirely, making them nothing more than a figurehead.
Culture
The Arid Wastes have a very unique culture because, unlike every other color of dragon, blue dragons have been lucky to live much longer than 300 years. Something about the blue dragons genetic makeup causes them to age significantly faster than their cousins of various colors. No one knows for sure why this is the case. Not wanting to be left behind by the rest of the evolving civilizations around the world, citizens of the wastes put a significant amount of weight on an individual's accomplishments throughout their lives. The inability to live for thousands of years puts them at a disadvantage in some aspects, and they are aware of this. Blue dragonkin very commonly have massive families in hopes that their numbers together will make up for their shorter life spans. Many citizens of the wastes devote their lives to striving for technological advances that will not only propel their country ahead of the rest but also in hopes of finding a way to increase the life span of the blue dragons.
Public Agenda
The Wastes are very tech-savvy, and outside of the free cities, they are the most technologically advanced country. Many wish to be the first to figure out a way to increase the lifespan of blue dragons, whether solely with technology or with the combined effort of technology and magic. Because of this, there is a huge push for advancement within the country, and through this push, many brilliant minds have been attracted to the country to learn and grow.
Assets
Located in a dry wasteland, natural resources are few and far between. A handful of mines harvesting natural minerals exist, but unfortunately, many of them pale in comparison to Aredite from The Noxious Jungle. However, necessity is the mother of innovation. While the natural resources of the waste are very limited, the country has found ways to create assets valuable to not only themselves but to those around the world. A few examples are water purification systems, rainwater collectors, and one of the biggest items, airships. However, these ships are powered by magic, not any sort of fuel.
History
Historically, citizens of the waste are often held to a high standard. Success in life is very often linked to how successful one is in their field of work. Due to the short life span of blue dragons, they often have very large families. There are many disadvantages to aging quickly; however, a major upside is that dragons reach their true potential within 100 years instead of almost 1000 years. Strength in numbers is a common thought process among blue dragons. The wastes have very little interest in the wars and battles that happen throughout Agodale. They have only involved themselves in wars after they themselves have been attacked. The Chronos assembly and the royal family have been in a constant power struggle throughout the years; the assembly does not hold as much appreciation for technology as the royal family does. One of their biggest concerns is the amount of resources going towards research on anti-aging technology and magic. They believe it to be a fruitless effort, while the royal family has always advocated for it. Especially now, under Torrea's rule, the divide between the two has never been larger.
