The Ruination of Sathoth.

The Ruination of Sathoth was the single conflict that wiped out the Empire of Sathoth. Yatha Ankusef's forces were sent to prevent a minor anomaly, but were destroyed entirely, except for a single Berserker Formation. The Raveners, or Walking Heresies, Multroca-sends, or just Beasts, depending on your point of view, proceeded to wipe out the core of the Sathian Empire using the reanimated corpses of the dead Sathian soldiers! Now the Raveners wander the wastes that once was Sathoth proper. Only the suicidal go there, and the Ravagers will all too happily oblige them.

The Conflict

Prelude

Sathian farmers along the southern border were going missing. This escalated when nothing was done to entire towns just going dark overnight. Military scout expeditions reported tentacled animals and huge pustulant walking boils hunting people and wildlife and either eating them or, if they put up a fight, stowing them in capsules where they are torn to shreds and put back together featuring tentacles this time. Obviously, this lead to a military response and a punitive expedition was dispatched under the command of Cavalry Commander Yatha Ankusef.

Deployment

Ankusef set his cavalry to locate the main enemy force in the ruined townships. He held his infantry back and pushed to the mangrove swamps in the far south of Iraa. The cavalry commanded personally by Ankusef himself, saw the enemy force was going to strike the Infantry from behind, rejoined their brothers in arms, and turned about to face the ravening hordes. This lead to a great battle in the mangrove swamps and vast floodplains.

Battlefield

The first great standing battle occurred in the floodplains of southern Iraa, followed by a running battle to the belt of Cities in the core of Sathoth, sieges of these cities, and the capital, Othos, being crushed between the tentacled monster's strange jaws.

Outcome

Death, destruction, chaos, and lots of tentacles.

Aftermath

Long-term effects included the official separation and change of the Provinces of, later the Empire of, Kelsumm. It also lead to trade disruptions, a failed land grab by Taldefa, many cults, and a blaming of the Raveners on the Taldefan god Multroca, a religious war between Kelsumm and Taldefa, and the formation of the many many adventuring and monster-killing organizations that cover the borders of the former Sathian heartland like a rash.
