Eight Lenses

The Eight Lenses are eight magical gemstones which make out the lenses within the telescope of the The Watching Eye .

History

The origin of the nine gemstones of power is long forgotten and today only eight is known to exist. At the beginning of the Fourth Age three gemstones were set in the coronets of buried kings;

• Heart of the Forest
• Ironfist
• Eye of Auril

Two were not yet mined;

• Somerstar
• Day's Lament

The remaining two were in the keep of the dragon Pyrchathor;

• Mák Ruby
• Drop of Fragrance

Retrieval

Peton Grayloft set out in the late spring of 360 4A on a grand quest to retrieve the eight gemstones of power. It took 15 years to find them all and in doing so he had both made and slain many enemies. For two years Peton built a telescope using the gemstones and in 377 he founded the The Watching Eye and Loftinia .
