Tale of the Accursed Warrior King Myth in Age of Gray | World Anvil

Tale of the Accursed Warrior King

In the north, just below the extensive lands warped by the Colors during the Age of War, there lived Warrior Tribes of Terrivar Plains, ruled by their Warrior Kings.
Even though the tribes don't exist anymore (either due to being killed off or settling down somewhere else and creating cities), their stories have survived. One of them is known all around the Urnketh.   The story of the accursed Warrior King, one of the first Witchkillers.
There is a tale of the king, whose name has been forgotten by time.
He was a man known for his absurd strength, being able to pull the wagon filled with wounded soldiers by himself during one of the battles.
Even amongst other Beteclaw he was an exceptional being.
That's why others flocked to him and that is why he became their king.
Unexpected foe
The lands of Warrior Kings were often attacked by the neighboring nations, so they often had to stop their fights and squabbles to band together against the greater evil.
This was the time for one of such unions.
But this time, instead of an army, on the other side of the battlefield stood one little girl. Before warriors could even react, she began to shriek with laughter. And with every second she did, more and more soldiers started dying. She was a Witch.
Kings commanded their people to retreat. And she didn't move a step, she just laughed and laughed.   During the night, in the camps, when Kings tried to find a solution to their problem, she showed up. And the laughter began again.
For the next days, this repeated time after time. No matter how much distance the soldiers would make between her and themselves, whenever they stopped, she managed to catch up to them. And time and time again, they had to leave those wounded in the attack before.
Ambush
Our king decided to ambush her the next time she would catch up to them. He gathered some of his strongest people and found the best place for the attack.
Somehow, they managed to surprise her. They cut her with their weapons and claws. Even then, she started her shrieks and the wounds on her body began to heal.
King's men started to collapse and soon only he would stand before her.
He did something she didn't expect. He hugged her. That stopped her screams for a second as she looked at him with curiosity. But then she laughed more and tried to claw her way out of his arms.
So he hugged her tighter and tighter. Her ribs started to crack, she couldn't breathe. The blood flowing from her mouth prevented her from shrieking.
The King apologized to her and then tightened his arms a little more.
The Witchkiller
The Witch died. The King became one of the first Witchkillers.
As he laid her body down on the ground, it started to change. The Colors seeped out of her, changing everything.
The King tried to run away, throwing his people over his shoulders, but even without the burden, he wouldn't be able to outrun the spreading danger.
As if sensing who killed the Witch, the Colors started to soak his fur and skin.
Soon both he and his men were covered in them.
And they started to change. Become more beastly. In place of proud warriors now laid a pack of magnificent beasts, with one way larger and beautiful than others.
The only thing that would let one know, who it was before, was a royal red cape, still hanging on its back.

The spread of the tale

Since the first time, this story has been told, it has been spread around Urnketh in the form of paintings, books, poems, and plays. There were many who wanted to picture the tragic story of the accursed king.
Just a few years ago, many theaters showed a play by a mysterious screenwriter, showing Warrior King as a murderer of an innocent Witch. Those who know of the historical basis of the story, heavily criticized this version of the events, while others had fun with a new portrayal of the story.

Beast of Terrivar Plains

Even though the Warrior Tribes don't live anymore on the Terrivar Plains, no one else managed to settle down there. It is because of the pack of beasts that live only around there.
They are very territorial and aggressive and show heavy signs of Oversaturation (condition).   According to some, they don't attack the descendants of Warrior Tribes, but no one dares to check if it is true.
Mysterious Witch
To this day it is unknown who was the little Witch who terrorized the Warrior Tribes and why she showed up there. Was she sent there? Did she have a reason to attack the army? Why did she stop at first, when king hugged her?
I can't really find anything about this anywhere. It could mean the records were erased. Or just didn't exist in the first place and it's another dead end.

Wow! I really loved reading this article! The colours and the way you wrote this really made this amazing to read!   1) First off, I just have to compliment the tale itself was amazing to read and combined with the way how you wrote it, it made me quite interested!   2) Secondly, I have to compliment the formatting here. It goes hand in hand with the writing and makes this article more amazing to read!   Now onto a few questions I have!   First of all, are there any regional variations for this tale? What is the legacy of this tale? How has it influenced the tribes?   I’m incredibly sorry for my bland comment since it’s almost 2:30 am here as of the writing of this comment XD. But I really did love it! Congrats rev and keep up the amazing work!
