Letter of Admittance to STPAC - School of Application of Colors
Mia's thoughts were a mixture of excitement, hope, and an equal amount of anxiety. While she was going out to buy bread, a mailman came to her house. Her parents didn't expect any letters, but she did. Just a few months earlier, she took part in an entry exam at the School of Theoretical and Practical Application of Colors. Her family was far from being well-off and so, the only way for her to get to that school was to prove her knowledge and intellect. And even then, she wouldn't have any chance of getting in there if she didn't have any ability to control Colors. And so, for the thousandth time, she tried to recall the answers she wrote on the exam, trying to find the mistakes she could have made. Buying all the groceries didn't take that much time. She almost ran back home, she was so excited. On the way, she met the mailman again, a few houses away from hers. She waved at him and old Mrs. Birch as he was delivering the letter to her. And again, he tipped his hat to her. A few moments later, she burst into the living room, just after passing the bag of groceries to her mom. The letter waited on the table, her dad and younger brothers already in the room, awaiting the news. Even mom decided to join them, the groceries could wait a moment for unpacking. The envelope had a fancy, colorful wax seal on it, the symbol of the School of Application of Colors. Mia carefully broke the seal. Inside, there was a letter written on a paper of quality she's never seen before. She couldn't imagine it being worth less than her father would have to work a whole month for. But when she shook off the surprise of the fanciness of just the paper the letter was written on, her eyes finally started to race through the text. Her family seemed to hold their breaths, trying to read her expression. Her expression, at first was anxious, when she read the first words, then focused, when she didn't want to skip a single word of either approval or dismissal, then nervous again when the letter mentioned the exams and her scores in different subjects, And finally, a giant grin showed up on her face as her eyes seemed to almost sparkle from joy. She started jumping up and down, with the letter still in her hands, "I got in! I got in!". She didn't manage to make more than two jumps when all her family grabbed her in a giant warm hug and started jumping with her.School of Theoretical and Practical Application of Colors is often considered one of the best schools in Urnketh. Despite its name, it doesn't focus only on Colors and Color magic. There are hundreds of other non-magical subjects one can learn there, though the courses for the students who don't possess any ability to control the Colors tend to be pretty pricey. To the point that only the nobility can take part in them. And so, if anyone else wants to be admitted to STPAC, they need to have said ability at even the most basic level, and even then, they need to get a high enough score on the entrance exams. The number of free spots is limited, and people from most of the countries of the continent compete to get in. But after the exams, the only thing left for them to do is to wait for the letter from the school. The letter contains their possible future. Either an admittance into the number of students of the school or a "thank you" for taking part in the exam and a sincere apology for being rejected. Should the student be accepted, the letter will also contain all the information needed for them. Everything required, the schedule at the beginning of the year, the list of possible classes to take, the map of the school, all the instructions on getting to all the right places before and during the opening ceremony, a reminder to take the letter of admittance to the Recruitment Office, and many more. Thanks to the Color magic, all of those additional papers are usually hidden at first until the recipient of the letter reads it, both saving them the confusion should they suddenly see a great number of papers, and saving on space, as the spell makes it so all the additional papers occupy the same place, so only a single envelope is enough.
