Hue Seeking Bow Item in Age of Gray | World Anvil

Hue Seeking Bow

A long time ago, back in the Age of War there was a group of mercenaries known for their unmatched skill. Their leader was an archer, who always knew where to go for their next job and where to find their target.   At some point they were offered a job to kill a Witch (her name has been lost to time). They knew something like that could be their last job, as bigger armies failed in doing so. And yet, they were sure of their abilities, so they accepted the job.   They spent half of a year on the pursuit before they managed to cut off any way the Witch could use to escape.
It was time to attack. During this battle, Witch used so much Black magic the area now known as an Obsidian Forest was created.   The Witch was killed. Mercenaries became Witchkillers. As it wasn't possible for them to escape the Colors that seeped out of the one they killed, they all were warped.
That is the fate of those who kill the Witches.   Before he changed, the leader of the mercenaries started to feel that his bow started to change. Filled with pain, he dropped it somewhere in the forest.
— Story of the mercenaries and the Witch the time has forgotten.

Hue seeking

Every living being has their hue, a mixture of all of their Colors that is characteristic for them (unless they suffer from Oversaturation (condition)). This bow lets their user to always know where the owner of a specific hue they are looking for is located. The only thing they need is something the prey had contact with and they can track thew anywhere they go.
If the archer is close enough, they even get to know the exact distance between themselves and the one they hunt. For a skilled marksman that could mean they will never miss their mark.

Rumors

According to some, the bow has been found and already changed its owners a few times.
It was used by those pursuing revenge and those who wanted to find lost loved ones.
Sadly, it always tends to bring early doom to the ones who use it, as they focus on one thing they are seeking for, not caring for dangers around them.

"Sadly, it always tends to bring early doom to the ones who use it, as they focus on one thing they are seeking for, not caring for dangers around them."   Oh, hey. That makes sense. Tunnel-vision can be deadly, folks.   So, does a bow have to be a particular hue to track a particular color, or can any of these bows track any color if you have the right components?

It's a one-of-a-kind artifact that can track any Color combination with the right "scent". It just passed through many hands.
Once someone kills a Witch another new artifact is made but also everything gets oversaturated in the area.
