Garnet spikes

Three Sisters of War were tired. This battle was way too long.
They have been fighting for the last 10 days and their enemies seemed to never end. And for some reason, these guys didn't seem to get scared, no matter how many of their friends died. The Witches needed a respite, so they decided to use a powerful spell, one that even they didn't know how it would work.
They started to channel Red. As they were weak, they started to absorb it from everything in the area. Then came the explosion.   When the light finally dimmed, the world around them was red. They were under a dome, no enemies in sight.
Then, parts of the dome started to collapse creating holes where the light could shine through.
As they came to a border, the enemy armies still fought with each other outside. But for some reason, none of them has seen the three sisters. And then, one of the soldiers fell into the dome and disappeared. Witches couldn't see him anymore. Seconds later, he appeared again, as he left the dome.   The Witches understood. They have created a sphere protecting everyone from those who would want to hurt them.
So they rested there and when the fighting ceased they moved on, continuing their journey.
The spikes are a giant spherical shell, 1 kilometer in radius, with thousands of holes in it. It looks as if it is made out of some type of dark red crystals that were smoothed. Its name comes from a hundred meter long sharp protrusions growing outwards from every hole. In its center, there is a crater made by the impact of the spell that created it.
Some of the spikes are missing as people tried to use them as a source of Pigment. They soon stopped this practice, as cutting off the spike caused it to leak Red everywhere, oversaturating and warping it. They have a magical property that makes anyone who enters them invisible and immaterial to anyone who would want to hurt them.

Red oversaturation

Surprisingly, only the shell of the Garnet Spikes is dangerous, with its high levels of Red Color that can cause Oversaturation (condition). The area underneath it has normal levels of Colors, being completely safe for anyone and anything that enters.
Touching the shell is ill-advised, as those who tried that were usually warped even after just a few seconds of contact. Some of the trees that touched it by growing are now oversaturated, turning them into spiky crystals.

The oasis

Only a few years after the explosion, nature started to reclaim the area under the Spikes.
Water filled the crater, and the forest grew around it. If one enters the dome with no ill will towards them, it is possible to see hundreds of animals there, living in artificial peace. Predators and prey continuing their existence together.

This is really interesting. I love the way you use color here. Now I want to explore your world to understand it better.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .
