Blue Isis Base

Home away from home...   Nestled snugly within the Redali System's asteroid belt, this hollowed-out micro-planetoid serves as headquarters for pirates under command of Captain Caroline Wendell. First constructed by her now-deceased husband Gage, it has become more than a safe place to stash loot. It has become a home for those who have none. With ample space for storing pilfered products, parking the Blue Isis cruiser itself, and individual rooms for each member of the crew and room to spare, the crew swing by between runs to enjoy a good meal together and rest after a good hard day of plundering. Hyra Sassun is the lone member of the crew who stays behind to coordinate interceptions and fence merchandise to prospective buyers. Protected by multiple layers of defense, the Threes have yet to find it otherwise they would put an end to the pesky privateers.

Defences

The multi-layer airlock is the primary gateway with holoprojectors creating the illusion of a rocky surface to fool passersby. Outside in the belt are scattered sensors to warn of snooping trespassers and dummy asteroids fitted with explosives litter the belt, fitted with tiny thrusters to discreetly nudge into the path of a patrolling enemy and detonate if need be. Even though the natural rock remains intact in the interior, there is an emergency array of airshields designed to remain active if the nightmare scenario should happen and the rock itself is breached. The air shields would remain active as long as necessary for the crew to evacuate.

Industry & Trade

The lone other female of the crew, Hyra Sassun from Cygnus spends most of her time in the command center finding buyers for plundered cargo. Merchandise is bartered in exchange for crucial systems components, ammunition, food, and parts needed to maintain the cruiser and its crew.

Infrastructure

The only entrance consists of a multi-stage airlock through which the Blue Isis passes. An air-shield keeps the interior pressurized while the hatches are open until the Blue Isis lands and the hatches close. Air circulation systems keep the interior comfortable and water filtration and distillation plants can break down harvested stellar ice and convert to potable water.
“Approaching home base,” Hirrdik stated. Dais looked at the main screen and saw a large asteroid.   “Doesn’t look that impressive,” he muttered. He kept expecting to see some sort of dock built into the rocky face. Hirrdik kept the ship on a course directly for the asteroid. Dais started to grow alarmed as they came closer and closer. He opened his mouth to shout but the ship suddenly dove and dipped under the asteroid. Dais watched bewildered as the ship rose up slightly, apparently slipping into the rock face itself. As they ascended into a wide opening, Dais spotted holoprojectors stuck into the rock. The ship passed through an energy barrier akin to a Pegasi’s air shield then through a set of open hangar doors. The doors hissed shut and Blue Isis moved to the side before alighting on a metal floor. Red lights on the deck turned green and crewmembers got up from their seats.   “We’re home, kids. Let’s get a move on,” Caroline urged. Hirrdik hopped out of his seat and padded past Dais, his muzzle stuck into the air indignantly.

Districts

The lowest level is reserved for storage of cargo, munitions, and equipment needed to maintain the cruiser. Stairways and catwalks extend along the outer circumerence of the second level leading up to personal quarters. The third level houses the command center with access to observation probes, recon satellites, and communications streams.

Assets

In addition to whatever cargo is retrieved, the base keeps a hefty stockpile of munitions for the Blue Isis. Usually this is bartered from the Sons-in-Exile in exchange for cargo seized from the Threes or unscrupulous merchants peddling to both sides.

History

When Gage Wendell returned to the system with a new ship and a motley crew to staff it, he needed a dedicated base. Even though he had working relations with the Nines and the Sons and could easily dock at one of their hangars, he wanted something for himself.   Ker Barzduk suggested they find a large asteroid and hollow out the interior. Gage turned his nose up at mining, but the excavated ore could be bartered to the Sons at the very least in exchange for additional building materials. After ten years of hard work, the base was fully operational. After Gage's death, Hyra-then-newest recruit- agreed to remain stationed at the base to keep the crew informed to any danger or potential marks.
Events of Cataclysm War
A chance encounter brings Caroline Wendell face to face with her biological son, the reborn Dais of the Ronin Warriors, she plots her escape and manages to abduct him in Ch. 6 "Phantoms of the Past", bringing him aboad the Blue Isis. With both Raurgoth and Sky Platform Argonauth in hot pursuit, the burst drives are activated and the cruiser transported instantaneously to the distant Redali System.   After a bit of plundering and a harrowing adventure or two, they arrive at the base to unload, reload, and unwind in Ch. 8 "Lost and Found and Fond Farewells". Dais is provided a spare room and learns more about his biological parents, uncovering more of the mystery behind his memory gap between the Feudal Era and the Modern Era. After some time recuperating, the crew depart for Earth.

The crew of the Blue Isis enjoyed a bountiful lunch after a long day of work refitting the ship. Kier held something that resembled the pod of a pitcher plant between his thumb and index finger and sprinkled a clear substance onto a chunk of raw meat. He glanced up as Dais approached. The Ronin Warrior glanced around at the motley crew of aliens. “So this is home away from home, eh?”   “‘Home is where the Heart is’. Something we picked up from you humans,” Kier replied.   “You seem to have picked up a lot of things from ‘us humans’,” Dais commented. Ker Barzduk put down his plate and picked something up from the table that looked like a small narrow box. He pointed it at a small screen mounted at the far end of the table and tapped the box with a claw tip. The screen lit up and displayed footage from an old black-and-white TV show.   “We’ve seen all your ‘greatest hits’,” Ker Barzduk said and clicked the screen back off.   “Earth sends out a great deal of signals. It’s just a matter of getting ‘good reception’,” Huonohunolon added.

Points of interest

The lower level is the widest, reserved for the parked Blue Isis. The cruiser can be observed best from the second or third level, affording full view of its Egyptian-style decals.

Tourism

The base location is kept under the highest secrecy. Only personal guests of the captain are permitted within its interior. At first Gage hoped to use it as a safe haven for refugees but after information about their activities was leaked by a mutineer-resulting in Gage's death-his widow Caroline permanently axed that idea.

Architecture

Most of the natural rock is preserved and metal used as necessary to prop up walkways and stairwells.

Geography

The system asteroid belt is immense. As many years as its been mined during the ongoing war, barely a dent has been made.

Climate

The atmosphere inside is kept comfortable for its inhabitants. Personal quarters are configured to the preferences of their occupants, for example Barr'al prefers a dry cold while Hirrdik prefers warm humidity.

Natural Resources

Nearby asteroids are rich in precious metals such as nickel, copper, iron, and vanadium. But because the base is occupied by space pirates, asteroid mining is beneath them.
They disembarked off an extended stairway and Dais had to crane his neck back to get a good view of the spacious interior of the asteroid. Most of the original rock remained intact with metal plates and struts giving support.

Dais strode up the steps to a walkway overlooking the Blue Isis and gripped the rail with both hands. He could see Paco worming his way to and fro over the hull and Barr’al and Ker Barzduk unloading containers from the cargo bay. The rest of the crew had loaded up metal carts full of armaments and wheeled them towards the ship.
