Age of Defiance WAWA Entries
This is a bit late to the party I've been so caught up with packing and prepping and working on other side projects it completely slipped my mind, but I suppose now is as good a time as any to present my humble offerings for the WAWAs. I'm not one for frequent plugging and I've made it clear I'm not a fan of the new "changes" made to community appearance, and if I do post something its usually a random drawing or a collection of laundry-day thumbnails.
I missed out on the chance to present AoD for "Best New World" when I first joined because I was simply too shy and I felt my world was too bare-bones to present properly. I threw AoD's hat in the ring for "Artist's Most Beautiful World" but I know there are other worlds out there that vastly blow mine out of the water with crazy background effects and balls-out-bonkers scripts. Really my biggest pride is all my artwork is self-made in some form or another. Maybe not web assets but its not UN-possible. I actually have a page of old doodles I had planned to use back in the day and completely forgot about but with the magic of software maybe I can re-purpose them somewhere down the line.
I don't do much maps or timelines so those were off the table for me, but I figured I'd offer some of the entries I worked the hardest on art or put the most thought into fleshing out the world. I still haven't gotten around to editing and formatting Season 2 part 1, but I managed to knock out alot of new pieces for not just Season 2 but the Thunthen, who formally make their debut in Season 2 part 2.
I did finally finish my months-long project of nearly a dozen full-color illustrations, which I had started all the way back in July but had to postpone due to a bit of a violent shakeup in my day to day routine. I think the extra work was worth it and I had such a huge collection of artwork for AoD thus far I printed out alot of pieces and put them into a nice little presentation binder and showed it off to some of my coworkers in my temporary job.
Much to my surprise my manager is a colossal weeb and is actually familiar with the source material, so much so when I idly mentioned converting some of my images to black and white to make a coloring book for my baby nephew, she asked if I could make her a coloring book featuring some of the guys. Now I'm steering my energies to this new project as not only do I get to work on new illustrations for Core Cast characters but I can put something nice together for people not just familiar with the OAS but my works as well. I'll be working against the clock as each day is moving closer to moving OUT of this nightmare.
With that being said, here are 2025's offerings for the WAWAs. And no Texas doesn't have one....
I still have to update Season 1 with the new artwork but that can wait another day. I don't expect much. I'm a fanfic writer, but these days when big budget entertainment reads like bad fanfiction, sometimes you need to cleanse your palate with fanfiction that reads like it deserves a big budget. I actually once had a fan comment that AoD should be a Netflix series, but these days-given how notorious Netflix is with handling some of their properties-that compliment isn't as flattering as it used to be....
Best Worldbuilding
The second-oldest of my Vanguards, I went all out with artwork for Raurgoth, even compiling "lost" drawings I'd never posted anywhere else. I always see those stupid "mistakes in worldbuilding" videos crop up in my recommendeds like "don't do dragons!!" Raurgoth isn't just "a" dragon, he's THE dragon!Rise of Nations
I always imagine my characters voiced by iconic voice actors, such as Tim Curry for Mal Daggur. Andreas Katsulas aka G'kar from Babylon 5 would've been perfect for Bak Thraplek but sadly he passed away many many years ago. One of his last performances was in the ill-fated "Legend of the Rangers" pilot. I remember a scene where he finds one of the Rangers used a holosuit to impersonate him to assuage nervous diplomats and G'kar was none too happy, giving the hapless Ranger "a look".Wondrous Nature
Sadly Christianophobia runs rampant throughout all corners of entertainment, and it seems like Catholics, in particular Roman Catholics like myself, are expected to somehow be the punching bag or the butt of jokes for everyone else in the world. More and more these days the saying seems true "Hell is empty for all the devils are up here"...Strength and Honor
Revered is the warrior among the Thangien people and perhaps none so much who wields parchment as a pavise, script as a sword, and wit as a weapon. Thangiens also got some love with a great deal of new artwork I plan to use to revamp my existing Pillar articles.Pillars of Progress
A bit of an odd one out since I have yet to start Season 6. I wanted to work on it after the new year but got sidetracked then I realized my existing roadmap in my old blue folder is HORRIFICALLY outdated and needs to be revamped completely in order to match the 15-chapter "season" format as well as prune filler. And sadly the old roadmap is full of filler. Reeheeheeheeaaallly full of filler...Myth's and Legends
I grew up reading old books cover to cover, chiefly a very old illustrated book of Aesop's Fables my Mom has as well as a dual-pack of Brother's Grimm and Hans-Christian Anderson stories. The tale itself is only briefly mentioned in the narrative, but it has a profound societal impact on the Thangien culture and a god that not only celebrates retribution but requires it.Aftermath
All artwork used is self-made and belongs to me unless otherwise stated, such as kitbashes and commissions. Age of Defiance does not and will not use or feature RW/YST original artwork out of consideration for the OAS creators
