Drak Zortemar
Founded by the youngest of the Firstborn, Zortemar, the Drak named after him is the only known Drak to survive to date. Located on Landsend Peninsula, it is one of the largest settlements there geographically as well as in terms of population. It is currently ruled by Karz Gruholim Ak Zortemar.
Drak Zortemar is also the capital of Karzok Zortemar - which in turn is the capital of Karzadan Drakar, though this is due to there being no other Karzok to contest the title.
Demographics
As with the rest of dwarven land, a Drak is divided by caste. Each caste has its place in the order of things, with them divided into upper and lower castes, and with each caste often having subcastes to determine an internal pecking order.
Nobles - As the head of the caste system, second only to the Royal subcaste, nobility make up a rather small amount of the population of a Drak
Warriors - The military caste is on par with the priestly caste and smith caste in terms of respectability and power. They are numerous.
Smiths - While technically a subcaste of the Craftsman caste, the Smith caste is considered a far more respectable designation, considered an upper caste on par with Warriors and Priests. Smiths are relatively few in number.
Priests - the last of the upper castes, Priests are considered equal to Warriors and Smiths. They are relatively few in number.
Craftsmen - One of the most populous castes of a Drak, the Craftsman caste is considered a lower caste, but is chief among them. This is partly evidenced by the top tier of their subcastes being considered Upper Caste. The caste includes merchants, carpenters, masons, and many other skilled trades and crafts.
Harmonised - Those who are part of dwarven society but are not dwarven are often by default part of the Harmonised Caste. This is a lower caste that has no true subcastes, with each Harmonised having the potential to rise and fall within Dwarven society at the whims of the Upper Castes. Dwarves who have magical potential, outside of the priesthood, are relegated to the Harmonised caste. This is a blessing and a curse, as it excludes them from many traditional dwarven livelihoods, but opens up many nontraditional ones. The often present Gnomish population of a Drak is considered entirely Harmonised.
Servants - including cleaners and manual labourers, among others, the servant caste is a lower caste and one of the lowest ranking castes within the system. It is a numerous caste, and while prospects are slim for it's members, they live generally satisfactory lives, if boring.
Casteless - the lowest caste, though some would claim it is not a caste at all. Made up of criminals, beggars, the homeless and the general detritus of Dwarven society, the casteless are considered a smear on the face of Dwarven society by many upstanding citizens. Excluded from proper employment, and the rights granted by being a member of the castes such as protection by the law, it is almost inevitable for a Casteless dwarf to turn to crime eventually.
History
According to the dwarves, Drak Zortemar was the last of the great twelve holds to be founded, and was the smallest of the twelve. Even today they claim it would match only the other lesser holds, and not come near to the scale of the elder Drak.
