Smog Stroke
Fist it's just a cough, then the dryness comes, finally your body heaves like a sinking ship each time you dare breath, before finally at long last you die.As the 4th Order of Kalakast spreads deeper into Afira, they bring with them their coal-burning technology. Natives of Afira come down with a specious respiratory illness known as smog stroke when exposed to the emissions caused by burning fossil fuels.
Symptoms
Smog stroke progresses in three stages, each worst than the last. At first smog stroke takes the form of a bad cough, at this stage, it can be overcome if the patient is isolated. If this stage goes on for long enough the victim experiences extreme dryness in the throat and extremities, with advanced medicinal treatment a patient can recover at this stage. Finally, if smog stroke goes untreated a patient can go into full respiratory shutdown which inevitably ends in death.Hidden Protection
Although for natives to Afira smog stroke is a deadly threat, Kalakastians are completely unaffected. This immunity is in no way natural, it is provided by the mysterious god of Kalakast, The Voice. The 4th Order wasn't even aware of the danger's the technology poses to human health until making contact with non-believers. They did, however, know about smog stroke, whenever a kalakastian did something distasteful to The Voice they would come down with a terrible cough until they made amends everyone amused this was a divine curse, but instead it was the removal of a divine blessing. The Voice doesn't just defend against smog, it also suppresses the carcinogenic and radioactive properties of many materials including uranium and off-gassing plastics. These blessings are yet to be widely known by citizens of the 4th Order.
