Rimerose Species in Afira | World Anvil

Rimerose

The rimerose is a true anomaly. It grows only in extreme cold and fertilizes the ground around it when it blooms. It has no known seeds of spores and seems to pop up randomly in The Southern Tundra, bringing with it other edible plants.

Bringer of Life

If you find the winter rose, you will find food.
— Tundra Tribe Member
Wherever the rimerose blooms other plants come with it, these include many edible grains, making them a godsend for the tundra tribes. Small rodents and insects also seem to sprout out of the ground neat blooming rimeroses. If the rose is picked, however, all the life it created freezes and dies.

Medical Wonder

Rimeroses are very useful in the hands of a healer. Many spells and potions require them and they can substitute for any component to a healing ritual. Picking them is dangerous and can only be done if one isn't relying on the life around the bloom.

Basic Information

The rimerose looks like a cold-blue poppy. It stands about 3 feet tall and often has more than one flower coming off of it's main grey stalk. They have a small root system the mirrors the growth above perfectly, the roots have round knobs where flowers are above ground.

Genetics and Reproduction

How rimeroses spread is completely unknown, they have no spores of seeds but grow all over the place. Metaphysics experts believe that they grow on leylines.

Ecology and Habitats

Rimerose can only grow in areas that are below 32 degrees Fahrenheit for more than three quarters of the year, it they are exposed the above-freezing temperatures they burst into arcane flames and vanish in a flash of white light.
