Beastborn Tundra Tribes

Wandering the frozen wastes of The Southern Tundra are tribes of nomadic peoples. The tundra is no place for humans, but other sapient creatures call the place home. These tribes consist of the lumbering loxodon, the zealous yakrin, and the rugged woolly rhinoceros men.

Life on the Ice

A life in the tundra is a hard one, tribes tirelessly travel in pursuit of reindeer herds and the mysterious blooming patterns of the rimerose. This constant travel has great effects on tundra culture. In order for survival a tribe's numbers must be kept thin, too many mouths to feed means everyone starves, thus a birth of children is rare and mating is only performed when someone else dies. Many couples will go their entire lives without having children.   Given their constant movement tundra peoples are non-agrarian and have very limited technology, however the science they can develop on the road is magic and the tundra is the perfect place for that. Magicians of all kinds can be found in a tundra tribe and most members practice some form of magic.

An Unlikely Alliance

When Kalakast first came in contact with tundra peoples they saw them as the perfect opportunity for expansion. The tundra is a highly competitive environment and the first tribe to gain the favor of the 4th Order could easily dominate over others. When a mammoth tribe pledged their allegiance to Kalakast they were gifted a steam-powered land ship, before they knew it other tribes came rushing to do trade with the Order is hopes of securing similar pieces of technology. Although their technology is primitive the tribes have been of great use to The Order, their knowledge of magic, uranium, and folklore is invaluable of the kalakstian incursion.
