Mammoth Hunters

At the bottom of society are the only people that hold it together.
Disgraced, stereotyped, and often feared, mammoth hunters have a hard time enough those that know of their means of livelihood. They might however play an overlooked role in keeping the south stable and safe.

Heartlessness Wanted

Unlike other forms of hunting, where one can shoot their target 100 feet away, to take down a mammoth requires hand-to-hand combat. One must look their prey in the eyes, engage in prolonged combat over the course of hours. Hunters will often have to attack and retreat numerous times before finally getting their ivory, or until their prey gets the better of them. Because of this monitory process mammoth hunters are serial animal abusers. Such a practice wears away at one’s soul. Many become alcoholics, other’s let their animal abuse turn to members of their own kind.

The Necessary Underbelly

Without the ivory industry the north would have no reason to not cut ties with the south. Being the main source of lumber and produce. In return the south has only ivory and ores to offer. Only 3 southern settlements have access to metal veins so the north would only have to remain in contact with those places and could leave the rest of the south stranded without wood, veggies, and sophisticated technology. Thus the drunken violent mammoth hunters go unappreciated for their accidental benefit to southern society.

Enemies Everywhere

Although human society has little tolerance for mammoth hunters, a hunting party’s true enemies are loxodon. Mammoth-human hybrids have a reasonable hatred of mammoth killers. Loxodon see mammoths as equals, and they have a real positions in loxodon society. The hunting and murder of mammoths is concidered a crime punishable by death.
