Silencium (Sill-en-see-um)

'Be Not Afraid of Yourself, For Vulnerability Is Bliss.'

C.R. Eede
Silencium:
  • Name: Silencium
  • Motto: "Lay Bare Your Vulnerability."
  • Crest: A white-tipped paintbrush resting on a saer palette. A dark brown background with bold saer outlines.
  • Recognition: 2401 NE
  • Contribution: Silencium incubates and supports its artists (current and historical), offers visual imagination to those who visit, and provides depositories of history.
  • Location: Rhyzeal Stream, C'avarnia
  • Management: Iravaya M'ithai and Muerala Tythal
Silencium is the only establishment within C'avarnia that displays historical and modernised artwork with significant, vulnerable, and insightful meanings. The art mainly revolves around the kingdom of Aethel Caeloria; however, it does broaden into other areas too. Antiques of the kingdom's history are also displayed for travellers and natives to admire.

Structure

The Overseers: There are two primary overseers within Silencium, and they are the wives of House Tythal and House M'ithai. Both overseers are equal, holding no superiority over one another. They can choose whomever they please from their own houses to be their successors as long as those elfa's have a fine appreciation for art and history. Both members do their best to maintain a high level of decorum and etiquette within the building to ensure it remains to their standards. Below are the overseers who manage the establishment:
  • Iravaya M'ithai: Iravaya is an elfa born in Ciavala of House M'ithai. She co-manages Silencium as well as tends to her house's needs.
  • Muerela Tythal: Muerela is an elfa born in Veanno of House Tythal. She co-manages Silencium as well as tends to her house's needs.
Additional Roles: Furthermore, other roles occupy the building to ensure it runs smoothly and efficiently, and each of these roles forms a different section. There are forty workers, but twenty are volunteers and national service elves. Below are the roles:
  • Second-in-Command: Four second-in-commands lead a particular section and report to the overseers.
  • Workers: Eighteen workers are employed at Silencium, maintaining the building and organising displayed pieces, promoting work, cleaning the building, etc.
  • Volunteers: A fair few volunteers work on different floors of the building as employed by the overseers and supervised by whichever leading professional in certain sections.
  • National Service: Elves undergoing national service regardless of age can experience their set years at Silencium.
  • Historians: Ten historians work on the second floor of the building covering a wide range of history located within.
  • Musicians: There are three professional conductors on the first floor, as well as three bands; a choir, a classical orchestra, and hired acoustics.
  • Artists: Five professional artists work on the ground floor of the building covering a wide range of artistic ventures.

Culture

Most of the high elves within the walls of C'avarnia share similar characteristics and are often opposed to the outside world. The culture is dynamic and relatively learned; however, its traditional culture is one the high elves genuinely follow. However, high elves do have the choice to adapt to more modern cultures if they see fit. Its traditional culture was the belief that the Starlight Veil must endure preserving our life,' as addressed by their god, Nelaeryn. A culture of stability, resilience and authentic thoughts. It is known to keep the fairest and wisest of any Elven race within its walls, and while the elves physically age at a slower rate and are not subject to illness, they can be affected by extreme negative emotion. However, if the Starlight Veil falls ill, the elves will lose their exceptional immunity and become vulnerable to disease.

Assets

Silencium is well-known throughout the capital but is often underrated, for no one seems to appreciate art for its glory and splendour. The establishment's assets are no less important than any other, highlighting the importance of differences and beauty among high elven cultures. There are four floors to the building, each with different content within. See the assets of the building below:   The Architecture:
  • Exterior Architecture: It takes the form of a predominantly beige structure that stands on a flat diamond plinth and consists of a symmetrical building with an arched doorway. On both of the doors are banners of House M'ithai and House Tythal. The roof of the building was that of a saer polyhedral dome with beige chiselled stone.
  • Columns: The columns are white and beige. There are eight columns on the outside of the structure, holding up the pediment.
  • Portico and Pediment: The portico is rectangular shaped and holds the pediment on top. The pediment has the words 'Lay Bare Your Vulnerability' carved into its face and filled with copper.
  • The Entrance: This is a spacious area with a private space to place personal belongings. In the centre of the room was a giant sculpture of the T'wiphray and Hyphicen in battle.
  • The Staircases: Upon entry, two dark brown wooden staircases lead to the first, second, and third floors.
  • Glasswork: Qerumian tinted orange and yellow arched windows, offering the room a colourful glow. There are also some clear glass panes shining natural sunlight into the rooms.
  • The Roof: The hollow roof of the building has an arched dome with beige decorations around it.
  • The Interior: The interior walls are painted teal with thin grey outlines around the edges. The stairs are located to the sides of the building, but on the second floor, a thick red rope prohibits non-authorised elves from entering the third floor. The flooring of the building is a smooth dark brown wood, regularly cleaned.
  • Lighting: There are sconces with candles and miniature grey lanterns hung on the walls, and a vast crystalline chandelier hung in the centre of each ceiling on every floor.
  • The Statue of the T'wiphray: On the ground floor is a vast statue of the once-legendary T'wiphray. It stands as tall as 12 feet, with its wings stretched out wide at 250cm.
Floors:
  • Ground Floor: Gallery and Sculptures
  • First Floor: Musical theatre, dining area, and gift shop
  • Second Floor: Museum
  • Third Floor: The Storeroom and Management Offices
Floors Expanded:
  • The Ground Floor: The ground floor is painted teal with thin grey outlines. There are twenty-five well-known paintings in the gallery and a few lesser-known ones by local artists. The history paintings have a golden frame while the local artists' ones have saer and bronze frames. Each painting has enough room to itself and a thin glass pane to protect it from the sunlight. The sculptures are placed neatly a little farther away from the paintings and are sealed off with a thick teal rope surrounding and boxing them into a small space. There are ten sculptures in total on the ground floor. Some are bigger than others; therefore, they require more room.
  • The First Floor: The first floor is painted ivory with bold dark grey outlines. A large, curved, wooden stage for orchestras and theatre plays was at the rear end of the floor. To the side of this stage were two velvet teal curtains that met in the middle and were separated by thin saer rope. There were fine fabric sofas in the seating area with white silk blankets covering them and six private boxes to the sides of the room for those who wanted privacy and space. The boxes had blackout red velvet curtains and a 'C-shaped' sofa inside them. Each box had a smooth wooden table in the centre for refreshments provided by the dining staff. The dining area was located on the far left side of the building, with the gift shop joined into it. Though the dining area was small, the gift shop showcased various products from museum-made cloaks, small toys and gadgets, paintings from local artists, clothing, stationary, and more. Travellers could eat and purchase an item made by the museum in the same place.
  • The Second Floor: The second floor is painted crimson red with bold dark brown outlines. The museum of the building is vast, having many historical artefacts, mannequins, and boxed literature within. There is a small corner stage of three mannequins lined up horizontally, showcasing what the Varcanai Guard looked like throughout history. Around the room, there are also mannequins of what the different kings of Aethel Caeloria wore during their reign. There is a chest beside each mannequin that elflings and elves can try on, giving them the chance to dress like those throughout C'avarnia's past. There are also small wooden swords, shields, and spears appropriate for elflings to play with. The centre of the floor has a range of different sized tables that hold glass boxes of historical artefacts from swords, detached spears, poet quills, torn pages from diaries, coins, jewellery, dolls, and more. Each artefact has a small tab explaining what the artefact means and its origins. These tabs offer a little story about it translated by the museum staff over time to ensure modern language is utilised correctly.
  • The Third Floor: This floor is painted white with bold black outlines around the room's edges. It is filled with stock for the gift shop, general maintenance equipment, cleaning apparatus, paintings from local artists, and any discovered artefacts of Aethel Caeloria. Everything has its place and is neatly compartmentalised in different areas. In the corner of the room is a space specifically for newly-found artefacts giving them the care they need. A separate part of the room sees the management office where Muerela and Iravaya work the most.

Demography and Population

Forty elves work at Silencium in total. The building is vast enough to employ at least sixty-seventy and a maximum of one hundred. The structure can hold over two-hundred elves on all of its floors.

Territories

Silencium is located within C'avarnia of Aethel Caeloria and is managed by the two houses wives of the kingdom, House M'ithai and House Tythal.

Military

The Varcanai Guard protects Silencium as it stands inside Jujinal Wall of the capital, where a range of other significant structures remains.

Religion

Religion isn't widely practised throughout Aethel Caeloria; however, the Virtuous Order does worship their God, Nelaeryn, to a minimal extent. They abide by his teachings, appreciate all he has given to the high elves, and thank him every day for the life he has given them. Some may light a candle or lay flowers at his shrine, Nelaeryn Y’vaphasai.   The Haven of Solaris is a safe place but often perceived as a religious establishment to learn more about Nelaeryn's creations. Any new knowledge discovered by the D'ivalorth and Promised Heralds regarding Nelaeryn's innovations and laws is passed onto the Virtuous Order for knowledge and safe-keeping. The High Priest and Priestess keep as updated on the efforts of their God, abiding by his rules and informing the citizens of these rules every now and again.

Foreign Relations

Iravaya M'ithai and Muerala Tythal have relations with artists and historians from other kingdoms, giving them the first look at artefacts and paintings that may be of Aethel Caelorian origin. Galsra, Ulvyr, Kavahir, and smaller lands contribute art for profit where they can, but both managers of Silencium are particular about the art that is displayed in the building; therefore, do not purchase items often.

Trade & Transport

Trade: Trade within the kingdom usually occurs within Filarion Plaza because that's where all the stalls are located. However, Muerala Tythal and Iravaya M'ithai travel to other lands in search of trade to add to Silencium too.   Transport: Transport of the kingdom mainly consists of horseback riding and wagon management. Horses are used for long-distance destinations with only a courier riding on them if a Nagtaive is unavailable. On the other hand, Wagons are used with horses to carry heavier items that require two or more horses to pull them. If the message is urgent or highly confidential, a Varcanai Guard is sent with the message/item on the back of a stallion for swift delivery.

Education

Education: Education comes in two forms, generalised and specialised. General education teaches all elflings about the kingdom, its history, daily living, and future contributions. However, specialised education comprises knowledge about recognising art and beauty in all its forms.
  1. General Education
  2. Specialised Education
General Education:
  • The Varcanai Healers: They open their doors to anyone who would like to gain knowledge in the art of medicine and healing, providing education in all the sciences and research skills. They are based on the ground floor of the temple. Varcanai Healers often take on new scholars who want to use their compassion and gentle hearts to help others through selfless acts of kindness and travel the world, which is a perk of being a medicinal scholar. Inexperienced/new scholars are taken on every few hundred years to pass their knowledge down. This, in turn, keeps the Varcanai Healers in operation and allows their healing properties to be used on those who cannot help themselves.
  • The D'ivalorth and Vythai: The D'ivalorth is the Guardian of all knowledge within Aethel Caeloria, the smartest elfa on Caede Galair. She knows all the ages through the power of the Starlight Veil. The D'ivalorth has a vast mental capacity beyond scientific possibility and can access more parts of the brain than any other, enabling her to take on more knowledge. Due to her significant position, she is the only elfa who has access to a dark tome; however, she has it locked away. She does know when to put her foot down and will not tolerate any form of disrespect or rudeness from anyone, royal or not. The Vythai is the Tender of Scrolls within Aethel Caeloria and is the assistant to the D'ivalorth. While she is not as advanced as D'ivalorth, she is still incredibly intellectual and can retain high amounts of information. The Vythai is a kind, courteous and understanding elfa with a tender heart. Her loving nature and open-minded personality pair well with her work efforts; however, she will not tolerate the desecration of books, scrolls or anything that withholds knowledge. She believes all learning to be of high importance to the world. Above all, she protects Incrementum and the secrets it withholds. Fortunately, the Vythai has her associate the D'ivalorth to assist with transcriptions and provide company when the place is quieter than usual. If they are at a standstill with books and scrolls, they sit in each other’s company to discuss general matters in their lives and entertain themselves with global politics and trivial discussions.
  • The Virtuous Order: The Virtuous Order allows anyone to walk through The Haven of Solaris to teach elves the way of Nelaeryn. Elflings, teens, adults, and elders alike may enter to learn about Nelaeryn and his teachings. As elflings are often much more fascinated by the world, they are who enter the doors to learn about their God and have a system of belief once they leave it, which often has them returning and visiting more often to learn more.
  • The Aalarelai Bloodline: Though the royal family most contend the kingdom's needs when they are found alone or have spare time, they are often approached by citizens to help them with educational matters, which they don't mind doing at all. The Advisor of the King and Queen are the ones who do this the most. They will even go one step further sometimes and hold sessions within the Varcanai Palace, Myserth Hall, or Tharnhim Castle to teach along with the neighbouring house leading family members who are gratefully onboard. Knowledge means everything to the royals, so teaching civilians about issues and matters of the world and history is something they will willingly and happily do.
  • The Varcanai Guard/Caelorian Incline/Howlite Clan: Throughout elves' time in their military groups, they will learn the basics of living in the kingdom and contributing. The Varcanai Guard, though it is a military, has been described by veterans as a vast family that teaches one another how to survive in the world both professionally and personally. This allows for a trusty and reliable militarised force.
Specialised Education: The managers of the establishment and second-in-commands contend with the in-depth education of those who wish to learn. Each floor specialises in a different sector and teaches elflings and elves how to hone their crafts, appreciate and value art for what it is and what it stands for, and interpret each piece analytically as possible, offering a different perspective. Education sectors as below:
  • Sculpting: Sculpting is an ancient visual art form that dates back to early creation. A sculpture creates three-dimensional graphical images, traditionally using materials such as clay, stone, ceramics, metals, or wood. Sculpting is often used to express wealth, power, religion, or politics.
  • Painting and Drawing: This is a form of expressing artistic visions using paint and pencil as the primary mediums. Paints are generally watercolour, pigments, dyes, and inks but can incorporate other materials. There are many styles of this art, including modernist, expressionist, classical, surreal, cubist, abstract, impressionist, and many more.
  • History: History helps elves to understand other cultures, Aethel Caelorian society, identity and significant historical figures, the tools to build a modern civilisation without repeating past mistakes, and it offers elves a clear insight into modern-day problems. The lesson here is for elves to learn the value history places on the modern world and condemn those who feel the necessity to repeat past misfortunes.
  • Ancient History: Ancient history delves deep into the origins, cultures, and traditions that exist in broader society's culture, thus influencing the way elves to live and breathe. Ancient history teaches elves the importance of beginnings and ends. Language is a big part of ancient history for elves and how it has developed through time.
  • Singing: When vocal cords produce sounds, they can express the beauty of emotion. Many philosophies state what is essential for singing, whether through a choir, opera singing, or stand-alone solo singing. The most important lesson taught is passion. It's being able to pull the heartstrings of those listening to the piece and giving them the chance to appreciate and resonate with the lyrics.
  • Dancing: Dance is a form of expression that brings elves together, allows them to be creative in new ways, and is a therapeutic way to escape the stresses and duties of daily life. The lesson taught the most here is self-expression and individuality through movement.
  • Modelling: Models help give Aethel Caelorian society ideas for fashion and advertise it as best as possible while adhering to their beauty standards. As lovers of natural beauty and defining facial features like freckles and birthmarks, Varcanians love to see models take to the stage to display themselves and new garments freshly made. The lesson taught here is to love oneself, boost self-esteem, and appreciate elven beauty in all its forms.
  • Orchestral Music: Music is the art of arranging audible sounds and vibrations to produce a musical composition using the elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre. This type of music is used using musical instruments of many calibres. Music is an art form that is culturally universal and present in all elven lands across Caede Galair. Music also has strong associations with religion and is a standard part of many religious practices.
  • Theatre: Theater is an art form where artists combine visual art and dramatic performance. Many dramatisations allow one to step into someone else's shoes and see life from their point of view, thus teaching the young lessons of empathy and cultural relativity. It promotes elves to give the power of truth, to take risks and advocate for new and diverse voices.

Infrastructure

The Infrastructure of the kingdom is relatively simple:
  • Jujinal Wall: Around the outside of the entire kingdom is the impenetrable wall of Jujinal carved during 2397 NE – 1675 NE. This wall was carved to resemble a crown from an isometric and bird-eye viewpoint. From a direct point of view, it appears to be a towering structure.
  • Sewage: This is controlled through drains found throughout the kingdom. The sewage of the kingdom is filtered and then released beyond the Ca'rthavial Vales to ensure no harm comes to the waters and sea life.
  • Roads/Pathways: All roads within the kingdom of Aethel Caeloria are connected from Dihavanor's Sphere in the centre. From there, the roads expand out towards House M'ithai, House Tythal, the Ca'rthavial Vales and along the kingdom's borders.
  • Freedom's Pass: Within Filarion Plaza is the Elders of Claritas courtroom, where average and major crimes are given a verdict and the King's final verdict. It is a place where judgement is passed and the laws are upheld.
  • The Haven of Solaris: Next to Freedom's Pass is the Haven of Solaris, where minor crimes are reported and resolved through coordination of the Varcanai Guard and High priestess/High Priest. Any average/major crimes reported to them are then passed onto the Elders of Claritas. The Haven of Solaris is also a place where elves can learn more about the moral principles of their God, Nelaeryn.

Mythology & Lore

  • Nelaeryn's Mighty Canvas: The most significant perception of Aethel Caeloria's creation derives from records stating how elves believed the great kingdom was forged. Some texts and paintings convey how they believe Nelaeryn created the kingdom. Some say that the ocean beyond the Ca'rthavial Vales was filled with tears of happiness. The lands were sculpted in his hands, similar to how a potter makes pottery. The flora of the kingdom bloomed from his gentle breath, breathing life into them and growing tall around the great mountain. Furthermore, the fauna throughout the land was born from his thoughts and emotions, coming into existence with a beating heart.
  • The Wreath of Light: It is written that the Ca'rthavial Vales is where Nelaeryn's heart resides. Through the shining light of the Caelorian Avialgeontrix, each avial gemstone embedded on the cliff's edge bears a portion of his heart within it, which causes the natural starlight to shine so brightly. This is why high elves deem the area sacred; it is considered the thinking spot of Nelaeryn.
  • The Falling Sky: Elves believe the soul of Nelaeryn resides within the core of the Caelorian Avialgeontrix star, which can be seen above the kingdom, offering it its light day and night. It is so bright that it illuminates the surrounding oceans and into the depths. Many excerpts tell of something so dark that none could ever visualise it throughout history.
  • The Old Kings Return: This myth is thousands of years old and surrounds the Kings of Old (Each King of the Kingdom that has ruled). It is said that during the kingdom's fall, the Spirits of the Kings of Old will break from their Saer temples (H’ilvatruth) and fight with every last breath until the kingdom is free from the evil spirits that control it. Aethel Caelorians believe this to be true because of the alignment of statues found within the Summerglossed fields. It is difficult to know whether there is validity to this. The only object of this tale is ‘Nithavideon,’ which is the King’s sword.
  • The Descent of Chaos: An anonymous painter during the first reign of Aethel Caeloria and his elflings throughout history have had visions of the Caelorian Avialgeontrix, the Mydha, and the Athominia descending to Aethel Caeloria amidst a great flood, eradicating all life beneath the great mountain. Many have tried to translate it throughout history, but it became more challenging once the images changed over the many generations. This piece was titled, The Descent of Chaos, for all life became none in one swift motion. All energy within the kingdom lay dead, and elves saw their skin being burned from their bodies before their very eyes.
  • Endium of Caeloria: Three events have been noted throughout history by the D'ivalorth, Vythai, and Seed of the Starlight Veil, which have become known as certain future events, though no one knows when they will occur. Each takes an isometric view and the form of a detailed painting within Silencium telling what the pictures may depict. These images are noted as the most famous portraits ever created within the lands of Aethel Caeloria:
  1. The White Plight: This picture shows the lands of Aethel Caeloria covered in steep white snow covering all the lands. The Starlight Veil and the Ca'rthavial Vales were covered too but emitted bright starlight from their cores.
  2. Shower of Arrows: The picture shows a group of elves standing before the Starlight Veil amidst steep snow, looking up towards the sky to see arrow-shaped shards with starlight radiating from them hurling towards the lands of Aethel Caeloria at an incredible speed. Many scholars have tried to translate this painting but have struggled to do so successfully. Some depict it as the kingdom's creation, whereas others believe it to be an event before the end of days. It is still up for interpretation.
  3. The Great Darkness: This picture shows three stars plummeting towards the ground on a completely black canvas. No one knows what this means, but anytime the sky is entirely black, those who have studied the art of paintings within Silencium become nervous, not knowing whether the end of days has come.

Divine Origins

All myth origins came from within the lands of Aethel Caeloria.

"Lay Bare Your Vulnerability"

Currency
The Currency of the Kingdom: Many items throughout the kingdom are expensive, but affordable stalls are also available. The primary currency is known as Avirial. Most traders will take gemstones if Avirial coins are not something other elves possess. Still, Varcanian traders are highly trained in the art of negotiation and getting the best price for their items, often making compromise challenging but not impossible.   Two Types of Coin:
  • Avirial: These are the standard coins, either saer or wien and have a small avial gemstone in the centre.
  • Raw Avial: These are rare coins with smooth saer and wien materials on the coin with a slightly larger avial gemstone in the centre. The raw avial gemstone is Aethel Caeloria’s most sacred stone as it holds the light of the stars within the centre, making it incredibly valuable and sought. It is also highly destructive with a blinding light and is the highest belief of purity for the high elves, making it exceptionally unique and desirable among traders and the kingdom alike.
Conversion Rate:
  • Avirial Coin = £10 GBP
  • Raw Avirial Coin = £1000 GBP
