Freedom's Pass (Free-dumbs-Pass)

"Open Oneself to Judgement"

C.R. Eede
Freedom's Pass:
  • Name: Freedom's Pass
  • Motto: "Open Oneself to Judgement"
  • Crest: The Aalarelai Sigil in the centre of a book.
  • Symbolism: Justice, Balance, and Judgement.
  • Recognition: 2396 NE
  • Contribution: Freedom's Pass provides the kingdom with a place of judgement, freedom, and punishment for criminals and those affected.
  • Location: Filarion Plaza, C'avarnia.
  • The Elders of Claritas: Kornephorus Hercul, Zosma Ole, and El' Nath Suruat.
Within Freedom's Pass are the Elders of Claritas, who are responsible for bringing justice to minimal and average crimes. There are only three elders within this establishment, as provided above. Between them, they discuss the crime committed and pass judgement with the reigning King's permission. The Elders are all equal and are the best at passing judgement with exceptional analysis, empathy, and dissection qualities. The Elders of Claritas are responsible for bringing justice to average and heinous crimes. While their punishments are often harsh, they are necessary to preserve peace within the capital's walls. While their sentences are often severe, they are also required to maintain harmony within the kingdom.

Structure

The Elders of Claritas: There are only three elders within Freedom's Pass. Their successors choose three once a new generation arises, offering them the chance to pass judgement and do good for the kingdom by the word of the reigning sovereign. Each elder is equal, with no one more inferior or superior to anyone else. Below are the elders who make up the establishment:
  • Kornephorus Hercul: Kornephorus is an elf born in C'avarnia of Aethel Caeloria. Along with his colleagues, he leads within Freedom's Pass.
  • Zosma Ole: Zosma is an elfa born in the Homes of Thorns within House Tythal's lands. Along with her colleagues, she leads within Freedom's Pass.
  • El' Nath Suruat: El' Nath is an elf born in the Village of the Phray within House M'ithai's lands. Along with his colleagues, he leads within Freedom's Pass.
Each elder is responsible for reporting crimes of average and significant effect to the king. The elders later hold a trial within their establishment to convict the criminal with the appropriate punishment. These individuals have the power to pass judgement and condemn whoever needs to be on behalf of this king. The king gets involved only when the crime is so heinous that sovereign intervention is necessary. The Virtuous Order is essential to the Elders of Claritas because they report minor and average crimes to the Elders, who then offer the appropriate punishment. The Virtuous Order does not have much power in the courtroom other than providing evidence, defending, and prosecuting the prisoners. The High Priest and Priestess collect evidence. Once they have done this, they offer copies to their superiors, the Elders of Claritas.

Culture

Most of the high elves within the walls of C'avarnia share similar characteristics and are often opposed to the outside world. The culture is dynamic and relatively learned; however, its traditional culture is one the high elves genuinely follow. However, high elves do have the choice to adapt to more modern cultures if they see fit. Its traditional culture was the belief that the Starlight Veil must endure preserving our life,' as addressed by their god, Nelaeryn. A culture of stability, resilience and authentic thoughts. It is known to keep the fairest and wisest of any Elven race within its walls, and while the elves physically age at a slower rate and are not subject to illness, they can be affected by extreme negative emotion. However, if the Starlight Veil falls ill, the elves will lose their exceptional immunity and become vulnerable to disease.   Within Freedom's Pass, the atmosphere can feel both calming and tense depending on what is inside. If a court session occurs, the atmosphere may feel close and intimidating, but if elves go there for advice from the elders, the environment may feel soothing and welcoming.

Public Agenda

Freedom's Pass Mandate: The Elders of Claritas offers its services to the sovereign of Aethel Caeloria and its high elven citizens to resolve complex matters against the nation and to enact a high degree of change within condemned individuals. We, three elders, demonstrate decisive and calculated thought for each elf sentenced to a life of crime, offering those affected the justice they deserve. Our clear path into formulating a plan, analysing the evidence, and delivering swift justice, is essential for the kingdom's safety. By Nelaeryn's word, we shall prevail.

Assets

Freedom's Pass is well known through all the lands of Aethel Caeloria, and elves in other kingdoms have heard of its grandeur. The establishment's assets are no less important than the assets within Varcanai Palace, holding the utmost significance within the capital. There were a few rooms within the building, including an enclosed space behind the three platforms where court sessions took place where there were rows of specially collected tomes on criminal justice. See the assets of the building below:   The Architecture:
  • Exterior Architecture: It took the form of a predominantly white, black, and saer structure that stood on a square plinth and consisted of a symmetrical building with an arched doorway. The roof of the building was that of a golden polyhedral dome with white chiselled stone. On both of the doors were saer banners with House Aalarelai's Sigil.
  • The Entrance: A spacious room filled with marvels of wonder etched into its walls and seats of authority surrounding it. The establishment bore beautiful raven black, Galsran tinted windows allowing sunlight to shine in, offering the room a faint glow. There were also candles in miniature ivory lanterns hung on the walls.
  • Glasswork: Black stained arch-shaped Galsran glass surrounding the entire building.
  • The Roof: The hollow roof of the building had more artwork, but of Nelaeryn and the other gods upon the creation of Caede Galair through the eyes of Miha Aalarelai during the first reign of Aethel Caeloria in 2998 NE.
  • The Interior: The building bore a large hall with a hollow dome roof and intricately carved Calcutta gold columns in the centre of the room, forming a circle. A wreath of saer leaves was between each column, giving it an aesthetic appearance. A raven black spectator stands in the centre of the columns with a direct view of the bench and jury boxes. There were also chains attached to the podium for safety reasons. The floor of the entire establishment was marine black marble with white streaks, which matched the beautiful golden columns. Along the walls was an untold detail-orientated artistic story that no one other than the King knew about.
  • Columns: Calcutta gold columns within the hall's centre, which forms a circle.
Three Tiers: There are three platforms for the Elders of Claritas, the Virtuous Order, and the King to sit upon when convicting an individual for a heinous crime.
  • The Highest Platform, The King's Throne: Directly opposite the main entrance was three platforms; the platform on the highest tier was the King's velvet midnight black throne with an intricate golden splat, triangular crest rail, stile, and legs. Its cushions were delicately stitched by the finest tailors in the kingdom and bore a large white and saer Sigil of House Aalarelai on a banner behind it dangling from the walls. In front of the King's Throne was a smooth, black walnut table with a small circular metallic sound block and a saer rod placed on top, enhancing its sound qualities throughout the room. Only the King had the power to use the saer rod during significant convictions.
  • The Middle Platform, The Elders of Claritas Bench: On the next platform down was the Elders of Claritas Bench, where most of the power resided. Their platform had a jade black, wooden court bench with three luxury Caelorian-styled, saer leafed, faux, leather white buttoned armchairs. Hanging on their bench was a horizontal saer and white banner with the kingdom's motto stitched into it, 'One People. One Kingdom.' While the Elders did not have saer rods, they did have the power to silence those who spoke out of line and control the room.
  • The Lower Platform, The Virtuous Order: On the lowest platform are two syrup brown leather chairs behind a black walnut table for the Virtuous Order's High Priest and High Priestess. Their table was similar to the Elders of Clarita's bench, only a lighter shade. On the ground floor of the establishment and a few metres in front of the last platform were two wooden tables facing the spectator stand for the witnesses to plead their testimonies. The Virtuous Order is essential to the Elders of Claritas because they report minor and average crimes and are then offered the appropriate punishment for said criminals. The Virtuous Order does not have much power in the courtroom other than providing evidence, defending, and prosecuting the prisoners. The High Priest and Priestess primarily collect evidence. Once they have done this, they offer copies to their superiors, the Elders of Claritas.
The Court Room:
  • Jury and Witness Boxes: On either side of the columns, in the centre of the room, are two tiers of white marbled rows of seats. Jury boxes for the general public are on the higher platform, and witness boxes for those who witnessed the crime are on the lower platform. These seats were both lower than the Elders of Claritas bench. Each row of seats was cushioned with white leather upholstery and stitched with saer ribbon.
  • Spectator Stand: In the centre of the golden Calcutta columns was a raven black spectator stand with a direct view of the bench and jury boxes.

Demography and Population

Inside Freedom's Pass are the three Elders of Claritas. During busy times, there are Varcanai Guards who stand within and outside the building for additional protection, especially when the sovereign bloodline is present.

Territories

Due to Freedom's Pass standing within C'avarnia, they have no territory to claim nor occupy. They are safely protected by the Varcanai Guard.

Military

The Varcanai Guard protects Freedom's Pass during regular hours and special occasions where travellers are more likely to flood the establishment admiring its artistic walls trying to decipher its meaning.

Religion

Religion isn't widely practised throughout Aethel Caeloria; however, the Virtuous Order does worship their God, Nelaeryn, to a minimal extent. Minimal meaning abiding by his teachings, appreciating all he has given to the high elves, and thanking him every day for the life he has given them. Some may light a candle or lay flowers at his shrine, Nelaeryn Y'vaphasai.   However, within Freedom's Pass' mandate is mention of Nelaeryn's word, which is something the elders abide by when making informed decisions on those who are to be condemned by them.

Trade & Transport

Transport: Transport mainly consists of horseback riding and wagon management. Horses are used for long-distance destinations. On the other hand, wagons are used with horses to carry heavier items such as racks of tomes and sometimes chests of gold/silver for the purchase of criminal related books.

Education

The three elders are appropriately educated to the maximum degree to ensure their punishments and compensation is appropriate.

Infrastructure

The Infrastructure of Freedom's Pass is relatively simple:
  • Jujinal Wall: Around the outside of the entire kingdom is the impenetrable wall of Jujinal carved during 2397 NE – 1675 NE. This wall was carved to resemble a crown from an isometric and bird-eye viewpoint. From a direct point of view, it appears to be a towering structure.
  • Sewage: This is controlled through drains found throughout the kingdom. The sewage of the kingdom is filtered then released beyond the Ca'rthavial Vales to ensure no harm comes to the waters and sea life.
  • Roads/Pathways: All roads within the kingdom of Aethel Caeloria are connected from Dihavanor's Sphere in the centre. From there, the roads expand out towards House M'ithai, House Tythal, the Ca'rthavial Vales and along the kingdom's borders.
  • Freedom's Pass: Within Filarion Plaza is the Elders of Claritas courtroom, where average and significant crimes are given a verdict and the King's final ruling. It is where judgment is passed, and the laws are upheld.
  • The Haven of Solaris: Next to Freedom's Pass is the Haven of Solaris, where minor crimes are reported and resolved through coordination of the Varcanai Guard and High priestess/High Priest. Any average/significant offences reported to them are then passed onto the Elders of Claritas. The Haven of Solaris is also a place where elves can learn more about the moral principles of their God, Nelaeryn.

Open Oneself to Judgement

Freedom's Pass: Freedom's Pass is the only establishment of judgement within C'avarnia offering its services to the native citizens of all its lands. This is where the Elders of Claritas reside, carrying out justice to those who have been wronged and condemning those with the appropriate punishments to prevent the crimes from occurring in the future.
The Order of Report:
  • High Elves > The Virtuous Order > The Elders of Claritas > The Reigning Sovereign.
The Virtuous Order must report to the Elders of Claritas regarding any minor or average crimes they hear about from word of mouth or through a reporting to ensure the criminal is caught and those affected a well compensated for any potential losses.
