Session 175 Report in Aeternia | World Anvil

Session 175

The Parent Trap

General Summary

  • The party entered the next room, finding Jahdzan covered in worms and a tumor-like entity that controlled him.
  • Through the course of a long and dangerous fight, the party defeated both of them, only to find a large key in the first room and a massive ocean in the room below.
  • Mirage Prime's voice echoed out: it's going to try to reclaim the body of "Mother Girth", so the party is on a short timer to plant their spheres and get out.

Near the end of their short rest, Theran warns the party about something that he's been meditating on: the Red Desert had briefly replaced him with a statue... but why then, and why for that duration? It "feels almost as if it's trying out something".   Dazki reassures him that he's considering that angle, but that it's going to be fine at least while they finish off this incursion. They talk about plans for how to approach the next encounter. He also asks Marvin for Baxton's Ring of Mind Shielding just in case. Marvin gives it to him.   They proceed down into the newly opened chamber.

Mom and Dad Are Fighting

The chamber pulsates, feeling as if "it wants to grab you, not let you go". Jahdzan's voice almost immediately responds to their entry, claiming that they are "trespassing" and that they should "go to their room and think about what [they've] done". A second voice from elsewhere in the room responds to him, claiming that "they've come to end our relationship, my love". A worm-covered humanoid individual walks through a glowing barrier. There is another barrier to the east with a familiar bubble around it.

Combat Summary

  • Dazki tried to talk Jahdzan down. Jahdzan took some psychic damage, but he remained hostile.
  • Dwardazik tripped Jahdzan. He retaliated by trying to cast Dominate Monster, but Marvin Counterspells it.
  • A second entity — large, resembling a tumor — descended and started passively damaging all around her, (Constitution Save 27) except for Dwardazik.
  • Marvin used the Far Gear to summon a Grell, which assisted for a while.
  • Theran used a Dispel Magic scroll to remove the bubble around the barrier in the east, and Dazki drank a Potion of Stone Giant Strength to try to tear through the barrier himself, searching for a way around to the tumor's chamber.
  • The tumor shot some kind of projectile at Dwardazik, who used a strange Turmoil-related ability to avoid its effects; it caused lights to dance around him.
  • An attack from Jahdzan got Dwardazik and the Grell to swarm with many small worms. This damaged, blinded, and restrained them.
  • Marvin used a spell scroll from Wendi: "Zone of Invisibility". It created a sphere with a radius of 15 feet, where any entity who entered it would become invisible until they left. He entered it.
  • The tumor spent a round slinking into the ceiling to reposition itself into the main chamber where the rest of the combatants were fighting.
  • Dazki ignored the tumor, sticking with his plan of trying to rip open the barrier to the side chamber — (Athletics 14) failing his first attempt — and continuing to try to persuade Jahdzan to change his alliance. As before, this caused some psychic damage to Jahdzan, but Jahdzan remained hostile.
  • Dwardazik, unsure of whether or not Dazki would eventually be able to sway Jahdzan, decided to focus his attacks on the tumor entity and add his voice to Dazki's to try to convince Jahdzan. As with Dazki's attempts, Dwardazik's words caused Jahdzan to take some psychic damage, but the worm-ridden entity remained hostile.
  • Throughout the rest of the combat, a "Warp Creature" ability from the tumor would progressively alter the bodies of Dazki and Theran, reducing their effectiveness.
  • Theran summoned a fire elemental spirit, which seemed to disproportionately anger the tumor, directing more of its attention towards him.
  • Dazki, with an attack from his rapier, finally broke through the barrier. Rather than leading around back as he was expecting, it led to a jump downward. This drop brought him to a gaseous bubble that held him aloft over a vast ocean.
  • Dwardazik activated his Elemental Gem to summon a fire elemental to assist.
  • Seeing Dazki head down, the tumor compelled Jahdzan to try to follow him down the pathway.
  • Marvin boosted Dwardazik with a Haste spell from a scroll so he could try to escape the worms.
  • Theran realized, just in time, that his "Ultimate Sneeze-Stopper" spell can stop and reverse the progressive flesh warping, so he used it on himself and messaged Dazki to return. When Dazki did, Theran cast it on him too.
  • Dwardazik destroyed the tumor with a flurry of swings, then commanded his fire elemental to finish off Jahdzan.
  • Marvin used his Pyroconverger to burn off the worms encumbering Dwardazik.
  • Before they could regroup to go to the basement that Dazki discovered, an otherworldly voice said "you will be too late, I will reclaim this failure". It was followed by a frantic heartbeat from the chamber below.
Dazki explains what he saw in the chamber below: not only a giant ocean, but also a "giant fetus leviathan down there, like, fucking huge", "something pulsing in the southeast corner", and "a couple of boats above a lake of poison". He also wants to save Jahdzan and bring him with them.   Dwardazik checks out what's on the other side of the barrier in the middle of the room. He tells Dazki about "a giant key with some kind of gemstone at the end of it and rooms on top of it" that he sees, then he checks it out a little. He can't immediately see what's going on with it, so he returns quickly.   Theran tries to use "Ultimate Sneeze-Stopper" to free Jahdzan of the worms around him, but nothing happens.

Lower Level

Below is a giant lake of acid. A pulsing, beating heart rests in the southeast corner that seems to create waves flowing in and out.   A dark and foreboding presence looms above the acid and starts to make its way to the southeast, as the party quickly decides to head to the corners of the room to place their modified spheres of annihilation.
