Curse of the Blackwings
Born to evil, destined to betray. The blackwing knows no warmth, no light, only darkness.
Summary
In The Sol Theocracy, a minute number of Solari are born with white hair and black wings and the lack of innate magical abilities that the rest of their race shares. They are unable to perform Theistic magic bestowed by Sol. Theocrats see the Blackwings as cursed births that are one day destined to commit evil and betray the empire.
Historical Basis
The Curse of the Blackwings has had been present throughout the history of the Theocracy. However, it's core is reaffirmed most recently through the Saga of Ingrid Argentum, the only blackwinged Immortal Justicar of Sol. Ingrid was a blackwing who travelled the world and successfully infiltrated Lunaria. She became a member of the infamous Collectors adventurers guild. She was faced with a choice eventually to stay in her new home, or betray Lunaria and escape back to the Theocracy with an artifact that Sol sought. She chose the latter, and for that, Sol rewarded her and made her a Justicar, and renamed Crimson Blades.
This even kick-started the 10th crusade against Lunaria. Ultimately, Crimson Blades betrayed and killed the surviving Justicars of the battle, making Sol vulnerable, causing his first death.
Spread
The curse of the Blackwings and the legend of Crimson Blades is a mostly obscure legend outside of the Theocracy. In the Theocracy, it is fresh in their memory. Since the death of Sol, blackwinged children are killed in their crib, barring very few. Those that survive are seen with suspicion if not outright derision.
In Literature
The epic of the Crimson Blade has been purged from the Theocritan culture, but a song of the same name exists in Caledon and Ormere.
